ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County firefighters responded to three house fires today, all of which were likely caused by lightning strikes as storms moved through the area. Thanks to quick action by local fire departments, all three homes were saved from total loss. On top of that, crews were called to assist with a structure fire in Logan County, Kentucky.

Assistant Chief Trey Nelm with the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department spoke with Smokey Barn News, detailing three significant fires that crews responded to across the county.

Mount Sharon Road Fire
The first fire occurred on Mount Sharon Road, where a large home caught fire, likely due to a lightning strike. Despite the size of the structure, firefighters contained the fire to a small area, preventing major damage. Thanks to the swift response by the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, and the Greenbrier Fire Department, the home remains in good condition.

New Cut Road Fire
The second fire broke out on New Cut Road, with Greenbrier Fire Department arriving first, joined by several other departments. Fire crews battled flames primarily in the second floor and attic area, a common location for lightning-related fires. Some sections of the ceiling had to be pulled down to fully extinguish the fire, and firefighters cut a few holes in the roof to vent the smoke. When the fire was out, officials estimated the damage at around 20%, meaning the home is still livable and repairable.

James Stone Fire
The third fire occurred in the James Stone Rd area of Cedar Hill. A gas line inside a wall ignited following a lightning strike. The homeowner used a garden hose until crews arrived. The fire made its way into the subfloor. Firefighters responded quickly, extinguishing the flames before they could spread. The Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department employed five apparatuses to contain the fire.

Mutual Aid to Logan County, Kentucky
In addition to handling local fires, Robertson County crews were called for mutual aid to a structure fire on Riverview Drive in Logan County, Kentucky. While details on the outcome of that fire are limited, Robertson County’s firefighters played a role in supporting their Kentucky counterparts.

In each of these incidents, firefighters were able to make what they call a “good stop”—containing fires before they could destroy homes and property. Their efforts helped ensure that residents could return to their homes and begin repairs rather than facing total loss.
