Suspect Shows Up At Hospital After Home Invasion Shootout
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Tuesday morning around 2:10 a.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to to a home located on Childress Street in response to a possible robbery.
According to the victims living at the home, there was a knock on the door. One of the victim’s (identified by police as a Hispanic male in his fifties) armed himself with a gun and opened the door. There were three men with guns standing at the door, and all of them (including the resident) began shooting, witnesses told police.
As the shooting started, the three suspects fled on foot. A short time later, a man identified as Mr. Dre’An Whitherspoon entered the Emergency Room at Northcrest Medical Center with a bullet wound.
Police say the wound was not life threatening. According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, it appears that Whitherspoon was one of the three men involved in the robbery on Childress Street and since the round was retrieved from Whitherspoon, a ballistics test should confirm he was shot by the victim.
It is not likely that the victim will face any charges, Thompson said.
According to Thompson, Five people (including a 7-year-old child) were in the home during the robbery but no one in the home was injured.
“Robberies matching this same pattern targeting Hispanics in our community have been occurring with some frequency in the last two years, we believe this robbery is tied to them,” Thompson Said.
These matters are currently being investigated by the Springfield Police Department. Further information will be released as it become available.
