UPDATED:

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The TBI and the city of Springfield are releasing more information regarding a fatal officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Springfield.

One person has died and a second hospitalized following two separate shooting incidents that occurred in Springfield just minutes apart, police now saying the two incidents are connected.

According to Springfield Police, it all started around 11 PM Tuesday when one person was shot on or near 18th E., by a then-unknown shooter (see updates below) after which the shooting victim was transported to TriStar Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield by private vehicle.

Minutes later, Springfield Police are called (two blocks over) to Blair St regarding a stolen vehicle and shots fired.  Springfield Police Chief Jason Head told Smokey Barn News that when officers arrived on Blair St they found a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle crashed in the middle of the road. The heavily damaged vehicle was situated on Blair St between 21st Ave East and Cherry St. MAP

UPDATE: Initially, police thought the vehicle was taken from a local business parking lot but that has now changed. Where and how the vehicle was taken will be at the discretion of the TBI to be released.

According to Chief Head, at some point, the alleged driver (now identified by the TBI as 28-year-old Tevin Chatman) brandished a gun and then opened fire at officers. The officers returned fire wounding the Chatman. Chatman was transported to TriStar Northcrest where he was pronounced deceased.

According to Chief Head, the TBI will lead the investigation, standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting. Springfield Officers were not injured during the shooting.

An update on the condition of the first shooting victim was not immediately available.

UPDATE: The city of Springfield is officially connecting the two incidents calling Chatman a suspect in the earlier incident that Smokey Barn News reported on 18th East.
