Teen Run Over “Pinned” At Portland East Middle School

PORTLAND, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A teenager was run over and pinned under a vehicle at Portland East Middle School Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m., a time when parents would typically be picking up their children. Many witnessed the extrication process as emergency responders worked diligently to free the teenager from beneath the vehicle.

Emergency responders faced difficulties in removing the vehicle from atop the teenager.  Numerous extrication techniques were employed. Sumner County EMS, Portland Police, and the Portland Fire Department worked diligently, utilizing every available technology to lift the car off the trapped teenager.

Due to the soft and wet ground conditions caused by recent rainfall, the extrication process proved challenging, officials said. The extrication process took approximately 20 minutes due to the soft terrain. The vehicle, identified as a small SUV, had become wedged on top of the teenager, necessitating careful and methodical efforts to ensure her safety as they lifted the vehicle to remove the teen.

The teenager, believed to be female, was subsequently transported to a local trauma center, with her condition described as “stable but possibly critical.”

The collaborative response from Portland Police, Portland Fire, Sumner County EMS, and Sumner County Resource Officers was instrumental in facilitating the safe extraction of the teenager from beneath the vehicle.

As soon as we can get more information on the condition of the teen we will bring it to you.

Sumner County Schools released the following statement regarding the incident.
