Three Dead At Springfield Home Triggers Murder Investigation

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to a statement from the Robertson County Sheriffs’ Office, a possible murder/suicide investigation is currently ongoing.
Three deceased persons were found at a home located on Green Rd just outside of Springfield. The home sits at the intersection of Green Rd and Brown Rd. MAP The Robertson County Sheriffs’ Office is leading the investigation. Smokey Barn News is working to get more information.
The initial 911 call went out indicated that a man was lying in the yard of the home not moving with a possible gunshot wound. We are still trying to confirm a report that the other bodies may be inside the home.
The initial call came in around 1 pm Tuesday afternoon. The Robertson County sheriff’s Office, the Cross Plains Fire Department, and Robertson County EMS were called to the scene.
The following is a statement released to Smokey Barn News from the Robertson County Sheriffs’ Office regarding the incident.
“The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a possible double homicide and suicide on Green Rd in Springfield, TN. This investigation is preliminary and additional information will be provided when available.”
UPDATE: Victims identified…
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office is now releasing more information about the incident. According to the agency, 62-year old-Sherry Green and 74-year-old Joseph Matthew Green were victims of homicide. 51-year-old Joseph Scott Green, also found deceased at the scene, appears to have taken his own life at the residence on Green Rd.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to a possible gunshot wound call at a residence on Green Rd. Upon arrival, investigators found the suspect, Joseph Scott Green in the back yard deceased with a firearm nearby, and the deceased victims’ Sherry Green (stepmother) and Joseph Matthew Green (father) in the home with gunshot wounds.
Investigators found evidence and a note indicating that the family had been having recent domestic family issues leading up to the homicide and suicide. This continues to be an on-going investigation.
