Timber! Adams Man Accused of Floating Stolen Logs Down Red River to Sell
Adams, TENNESSEE: (SSmokey Barn News) – The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office Agriculture Crimes Unit has arrested 45-year-old Ricky Shearon Winn for the alleged theft of valuable Black Walnut timber from at least two farms in Robertson County.
On February 5, Agricultural Crimes Detective Terry Morris received a report of alleged stolen Black Walnut timber from a farm along the Red River. During the investigation, a second farm along the Red River was also discovered to have allegedly lost Black Walnut timber. Detective Morris determined that Ricky Winn allegedly cut the trees down and pulled them to the Red River with a winch. From there, Winn allegedly floated the trees down the Red River at night to the TWRA boat ramp in Adams, TN. The trees were then allegedly loaded onto a trailer and transported to Clarksville, TN, where they were sold to a lumber dealer.
Ricky Winn was taken into custody on March 10, 2025, and is being held at the Robertson County Detention Facility on a $55,000 bond on the following charges:
Ricky Shearon Winn – Adams, TN
- Theft of Property over $2,500 x2 – Bond $20,000 each
- Vandalism x2 – Bond $5,000 each
- Criminal Trespass x2 – Bond $2,500 each
If you are a property owner along the Red River and believe you may be a victim of a similar incident, please contact Agricultural Crimes Detective Terry Morris at 615-382-6288.
Sheriff Michael Van Dyke stated:
“One of our victims planted those Black Walnut trees 30 years ago when he first purchased the farm to provide retirement income for himself and his family. They are now gone. It is deplorable that someone would not only violate and steal someone’s property but also take away their livelihood. These types of actions have no place in our county and will not be tolerated. I am thankful for our Agricultural Crimes Unit that are dedicated to working crimes against our hardworking farmers.”
