Train vs. Car in Springfield—A Driver’s Close Call

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield man miraculously escaped injury after his vehicle collided with a train in Springfield on Wednesday night.

The crash occurred at the Experiment Station Road crossing, first call coming into 911 came at 9:34 p.m.

According to the driver, he was traveling on Highway 41 toward Springfield when he turned onto Experiment Station Road heading home. LOCATION OF CRASH He says as he made the turn, the tracks were clear, and the railroad crossing arms were up. However, his vehicle slid sideways on the wet tracks and became stuck on the edge of the concrete lip. His vehicle was now blocking the tracks.

He attempted to get the car free but it wouldn’t budge. Realizing a train was now approaching, he jumped out and got clear before the collision.

The impact was significant, sending the car’s bumper to one side of the tracks while the rest of the vehicle ended up on the other. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and will likely be totaled.

Despite the ordeal and watching his car get totaled, the driver was in good spirits but, most importantly, he was uninjured—though he will be in the market for a new car.

The Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, the Springfield Police Department, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene, along with representatives from the railroad company.
