Tree Crashes Through Springfield Home, Family Displaced On Fourth Of July
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield family is spending the Fourth of July away from home after a large tree crashed through their house Saturday evening, leaving the structure uninhabitable.
The incident occurred in the 100 block of 23rd Avenue East, the first call coming into 911 at 6:17 p.m. With no storms, high winds, or other severe weather conditions in the area, why the tree decided to let go today is a bit of a mystery.
The tree struck the center portion of the home, causing extensive damage to the roof and interior. No injuries were reported.
Utility crews responded to the scene. Power to the home was disrupted, and city crews shut off natural gas service as a precaution. Due to the extent of the damage, the family will be unable to remain in the home.
According to officials, the family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and is expected to stay in a hotel while arrangements are made to repair the home
The cause of the tree’s collapse was not immediately known.
