Unloaded Gun Found Inside Locked Vehicle At Jo Byrns High School

ADAMS TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Robertson County Sheriff’s SRO (conducting a routine search of the parking lot at Jo Byrns High School) spotted what turned out to be an unloaded rifle inside of a locked parked vehicle in the school’s parking lot.

The incident occurred Wednesday and parents were notified, according to Robertson County Schools PIO Jim Bellis. The student had apparently been hunting and inadvertently forgot the gun was in the vehicle. Given the rural nature of Adams Tennessee, hunting is very common. This probably won’t be the last time this happens.

The gun was visible from outside the vehicle, a violation of district policy. The student will be dealt with according to district policy, Bellis said.

MESSAGE SENT TO PARENTS:

“Good evening, I wanted to let everyone know that today there was a rifle found in a student’s vehicle during a routine parking lot sweep by our SRO. There was no intent to harm anyone, it was for hunting purposes. The rifle was removed from the vehicle, everyone is safe. This was not related to the lockdown drill that occurred earlier this morning.”
