UPDATE: Local Man Facing Assault/DUI Charges After Rearending Deputy

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – This is an update to a report we brought you on Sunday, a local man was taken into custody Saturday night after rear-ending a Robertson County Sheriff’s Deputy within just feet of the Robertson County courthouse in Springfield.

The collision occurred around 10:30 Saturday night on 5th Ave between Locust and the Courthouse Square. The damage to both vehicles appeared to be minimal and no injuries were reported but the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Robertson County Detention facility in Springfield.

According to the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Kyle Robert Smothers has been charged with DUI 2nd offense, driving on revoked/suspended license, and assault against a first responder at a local hospital. His bond has been set at $16,500.

“We are thankful that no one was injured. With labor day coming up, we want to remind everyone that drinking while driving is not only illegal, it is life-threatening to yourself and to innocent bystanders.” Robertson County Sheriff’s Office.
