VIDEO: Greenbrier F.D. Honors Century Old Tradition Commissioning New Engine

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Greenbrier Fire Department took delivery of a brand new fire engine recently and on Friday it was officially put into service with a century-old tradition.

Back in the days of horse-drawn engines, steam power was used to pump the water and horses pulled the engine. The horses couldn’t back the machine into the station so it was done (by hand) by the firefighters. That tradition carries on to this day. Smokey’s cameras were rolling as the new engine was hosed down by the engine it is replacing and then punched into the station.

The new engine was ordered back in 2021 but supply chain issues delayed the arrival. By the reaction of Greenbrier Firefighters, it was worth the wait. More information about the new engine and the ceremony was captured in the video above.
