Well Known Business Man & Entrepreneur Johnny (Shorty) Maynard Has Died

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Well known Robertson County businessman, entrepreneur, and engineer Johnny “Shorty” Maynard has died, he was 70.

Shorty lost his battle with cancer just before midnight Tuesday. Shorty was well known in the Robertson County area for his engineering prowess and business acumen.

For decades Shorty was the go-to guy in Robertson County if you had an engineering problem to solve. Most recently he ran a recycling center located in the Springfield Industrial park. Shorty even helped out Smokey Barn News with a set design. The video below offers a glimpse of Shorty’s incredible engineering talent and gracious personality.

There’s little doubt that Shorty will be missed by all that knew him.

Johnny Thomas “Shorty” Maynard, age 70, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11 am in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Judson Phenicie and Brother David Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery with C.J. Estrada, Marco Estrada, Michael Maynard, Jr., Jamie Maynard, Don Toothman, and Jerrell Rawls serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 19, 2020, from 4-8 pm and again on Saturday from 10 am until the hour of service at 11 am.

Mr. Maynard was born August 6, 1949, in Portland to the late Luther C. and Clara Wix Maynard. He owned and operated Springfield Recycling Company and was a member of the Springfield First Free Will Baptist Church. He loved big machinery, collecting antique tools, music and traveling.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Maynard is preceded in death by his sister, Clara Dale Maynard, brother, Charles Maynard, and grandchild, Thomas Eric Maynard, and great-grandchild Leonidas Estrada. Mr. Maynard is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Scott; children, Jonathan (Tammy) Maynard, Michael Maynard, Sherry (Carlos) Estrada and Bo Maynard; siblings, Earl Maynard, Jimmy (Charlotte) Maynard, Danny Maynard, Annie Rawls and Clara Gail (Jerrell) Rawls; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
