Woman Killed After SUV Strikes Trees, Catches Fire On I-24 In Robertson County
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Tennessee woman was killed Wednesday morning after her SUV collided with another vehicle, left Interstate 24 and struck several trees before catching fire, according to a preliminary report obtained by Smokey Barn News from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, on I-24 East near mile marker 20, the first call coming into 911 at 8:49 a.m. (LOCATION OF CRASH) The crash involved a gold 2006 Acura MDX driven by 45-year-old Teresa D. Peterson and a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. Both drivers were from Tennessee. Neither vehicle had passengers.
According to the THP’s preliminary investigation, both vehicles were traveling eastbound, with Peterson’s Acura in the right lane and the Silverado in the left lane. THP reported that Peterson made an improper lane change, causing the Acura to strike the Silverado’s front passenger side.
Following the collision, the Acura traveled off the left side of the interstate, struck several standing trees, and caught fire. The Silverado stopped on the left shoulder. Peterson was wearing a seat belt, but she did not survive the crash. The driver of the Silverado was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
The preliminary report lists no charges against either driver.
The THP report is preliminary, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain subject to the agency’s full investigation.
