Disaster Averted After Tanker Ignites On Hwy 25

CROSS PLAINS TENNESSEE: Smokey Barn News) – An empty petroleum tanker ignited at a service station near Cross Plains Friday, but quick action saved the fuel tank.

The call came in just before 6 am Friday that a tractor-trailer hauling petroleum had ignited at the Mapco service station on Hwy 25. The station is located near the Hwy 25/I65 interchange. MAP

The Cross Plains Fire Department responded quickly and discovered that the tractor was engulfed in flames. Fast action by the Cross Plains Fire department halted the spread of the fire to the large fuel tank. Fortunately, the tanker was empty at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

UPDATE: According to officials with the Cross Plains Fire Department, the cause of the fire was electronics in the dash.

The Cross Plains Fire Department, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the call.
