UPDATE: According to Robertson County EMS Director Brent Dyer, emergency services were dispatched at 9:09 PM to the area of Highway 31W and South Old Highway 31, near Clearview Road, following reports of a serious crash involving a pickup truck that had gone off an embankment into trees.

Robertson County Medic 2 from the Cross Plains station arrived on the scene alongside Cross Plains Fire Department, Orlinda Fire Department, and a Robertson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy. Due to the severity of the crash, an air ambulance was dispatched, but crews discovered that the truck’s sole occupant, an adult, was deceased.

Rescuers and law enforcement used ropes to access the heavily damaged vehicle down the embankment. A lengthy recovery process is underway as the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigates. Initially, both lanes of Highway 31W were closed, but as of 10:15 PM, one lane had reopened. Multiple wreckers are on the scene to assist with the recovery, and Robertson County Emergency Management Agency is assisting Cross Plains and Orlinda Fire Departments in containing a gasoline leak.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is now releasing more information regarding last night’s fatal crash on Highway 31W near Cottontown.

According to THP’s report, obtained by Smokey Barn News, the crash occurred in the 5000 block of Highway 31W in Robertson County. Cecil Hicks of White House Tennessee, behind the wheel of a 2001 Ford F-150, was traveling north when his vehicle crossed the center line, went off the left side of the roadway, and struck a row of trees. After the initial collision, the truck continued down an embankment before coming to a stop. Hicks did not survive, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Why Hicks left the road is unclear. One official told Smokey Barn News that a medical emergency is being looked at as a possible cause.
