Obituary for Stella Naomi Crutcher Morrison

Stella Naomi Crutcher Morrison, age 81 of Springfield, passed from this life on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Harmon and Karen Birdwell officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Hall, Jason Hall, Gary Hall, and Chris Crawford. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of service.

floral squareMrs. Morrison was born April 29, 1942 in Nashville to the late George Wesley and Katie Kathleen Pitt Crutcher. She was retired from American General and was of the Baptist faith. Because of health reasons, the last few years she has spent her time watching television, especially game shows. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne “Bobby” Morrison; brothers, Robert Crutcher and J.W. Crutcher and sisters, Juanita Newman, Alice Tatum, and Patricia Holman.

Mrs. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Karen Birdwell (Chester Kimble) of Springfield; grandchildren, Kayla Birdwell and Joshua Birdwell; and great grandchildren, Ayden Birdwell and Ella Kate Dawson.

Obituary for David Lee Rader

David Lee Rader, age 66 of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Tristar Hendersonville Medical Center.

His remains are to be cremated and buried in Ohio.

Lee was born September 1, 1956 in Hamilton, OH to the late Lee Roy and Verenda Ann Robertson Rader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Zane Clark. He was a retired salesman and manager for GM Auto Dealerships. He enjoyed riding horses and farming.

Obituary for Rena Mae Wix Haley

Rena Mae Wix Haley, age 85 of Springfield and formerly of Guthrie, KY, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the home of her daughters.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home. Visitation on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, will begin at 12:00 p.m. with funeral services to be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Tyler Estep and Reverend Dr. Jason Wilkerson officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Westerman, Tim Carter, Tommy Brashear, George Warren, Keith Sholar, Gary Traughber, Kevin Harris, and Mike LaBorg. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Wix, Bobby Chezem, Jerry Stokes, Alan Holman, Kenneth Holman, and Mark Lewis. Interment will follow in Bellwood Cemetery in Adams, TN.

Mrs. Haley was born June 5, 1938, in Adams, TN to the late Dennis and Ruth Ledford Wix. She grew up in Adams and graduated from Jo Byrns High School in 1956.

She was a loving and kind wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Haley worked several jobs through the years including grocery clerk, church secretary, and grain elevator secretary. Her last position was in the Bookkeeping department of Elkton Bank and Trust where she retired in 2003. Her favorite hobby was working in her yard and flower beds.

Mrs. Haley was a member of Tiny Town Baptist Church, Guthrie, KY, where she served as a nursery worker caring for infants and toddlers, leader of the Mission Friends and Girls in Action, mailing cards and sending flowers to the sick, and serving as a dedicated Deacon’s wife for over 30 years. In recent years, she attended the Springfield First United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haley is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Haley; her brothers, C.D. Wix, Dudley Wix, and her sister, Betty Buck.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son and daughter-in-law, John Steven (Elaine) Haley, her daughters, Rena Denise Haley and Rhonda Carol Haley all of Springfield; her grandchildren, Timothy David (Laura) Haley of Chattanooga, Sarah Kathryn Haley of Nashville; her sister-in-law, Joan Wix of Adams; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Richard Best, 92, of Franklin, TN, passed away on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at Franklin Wellness and Rehab Center.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday June 26th at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Family will serve as pallbearers. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mr. Best was born September 13, 1930, in Lynn, MA to the late William and Jane Lilley Best. His career was as General Manager of the OUIMET Corporation in Nashville from 1952 until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Best was a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church in Brentwood and he enjoyed playing golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Robert Best, and by his sisters: Dorothy Noftle and Vera Best.

Obituary for Billy Ray Munday Sr. 

Billy Ray Munday Sr. MGST, USAF, Ret., age 90, of Hoschton, GA, formerly of Orlinda, TN, who passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023. Mr. Munday was born in Orlinda, TN, a son to the late William and Dixie Rippy Munday. Mr. Munday was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was the recipient of fourteen service medals and also served overseas in North Africa and Germany. Mr. Munday was also Robertson County’s first juvenile investigator and served in other local police departments in Robertson County. Mr. Munday was a member of the Jackson County Baptist Church in Jefferson, GA and loved gardening and watching Gunsmoke. In addition to his parents, Mr. Munday is preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Olivia Bayer and his ten brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Claborn Munday of Hoschton, GA; sons, Billy Ray (Terri) Munday Jr. of Cartersville, GA, George Barry (Bettye) Munday of Jamestown, TN, daughter, Beth M. (Earl) Bragg of Hoschton, GA; granddaughter, Amanda M. (Nick) Bayer of Colorado Springs, CO; great grandchildren, Carter and Charlotte Bayer; nieces, Christine Bailey, of Stewart, TN, Regina Chaffin of Cross Plains, TN, Geneva (Bob) Glenn, of Cottontown, TN; nephews, Ronnie (Linda) Munday, of Orwell, Ohio, Randy (Debbie) Munday of Sellersburg, IN and Donnie Munday of Florida also survives.

Age 80 of Greenbrier went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 23, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1943 in Hartsville, TN to Erby D. & Clara Lee Green Lankford. She had worked as a doctor’s assistant for Dr. Hollis Johnson. Mrs. Mink was a precious pastor’s wife for many years and was known as a QUIET ENCOURAGER. She was a member of The Way Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Bro. Mary “Frances” Milliken, age 90, of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed peacefully at her home on the family farm surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Funeral services were conducted at Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in Ashland City at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 24th, with Bro. Cecil Boswell officiating. She was eulogized by her grandchildren. Burial followed in Blue Springs Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the church on Friday, June 23rd from 5:00PM until 7:00PM and again on Saturday at the church from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM. There was no visitation at the funeral home.

Mrs. Milliken was born on October 26, 1932, in Ashland City, Tennessee, to the late Verner & Katherine Darrow Binkley. She was a homemaker who attended Friendship Free Will Baptist Church and dearly loved her church family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Tillman Milliken; brothers, Charles, Lytle, and Wallace Binkley; and her infant son.

Obituary for Shirley Jean Davis

Shirley Jean Davis was a Christian, a caring aunt, loving sister and friend to many. She left this world on June 20, 2023 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 79. Her battle with cancer showed her courage in facing life challenges with a positive attitude and smile, while showing more concern for others than herself. Despite the pain, Shirley stayed strong until the very end.

Shirley was born on October 22, 1943, to the late Cecil and Esther Davis. She was preceded in death by her brother Cecil Leo (Patti) Davis and brother-in-law John Pelham. She left behind a brother Terry Wayne Davis (Rita); sisters Linda Pelham and Iva Lou Boyd (Kenneth); 12 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews (whom she called her own).

After graduating from North High School in 1961, Shirley continued her education receiving numerous degrees. She earned an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, BS in Criminal Justice and Master’s Degree in Public Service.

floral squareShirley’s love for others and desire to serve led her to a lifelong career in law enforcement. She began working for Metro Police Department and was one of the first female graduates of the academy. Shirley received many awards and commendations for outstanding performance and was chosen as the IAWP Outstanding Woman Officer of the Year. She served for over 34 years before retiring as a Captain.

After retiring, Shirley spent her time with family and friends.

As per Shirley’s request, no memorial service or funeral will be held.

In Loving Memory of Marcia Austin Echols

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcia Austin Echols, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Marcia lost her battle with pulmonary fibrosis and left this world on Sunday June 18, 2023 surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion, and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Marcia is predeceased by her parents, Thomas E., and Susie Covington Austin, and her brother, Thomas Ewing Austin, Jr. Marcia is survived by her loving husband Judge Robert Lynn Echols and her three children: Susan Echols, Robert Lynn Echols Jr. (Christy), and John Austin Echols; her three grandchildren Bert, Anna, and Mayme Echols, and a multitude of family members and friends who will forever hold her dear.

Born on August 29,1942, Marcia grew up in Springfield, TN. She was a remarkable individual whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Marcia was a beacon of kindness and warmth, always ready with a smile to brighten anyone’s day. She had a gentle and nurturing soul, offering unwavering support and guidance to those around her.

Family was the cornerstone of Marcia’s life. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Robert, sharing a deep bond and a full life together. Marcia’s children, Susan, Robert Jr., and John Austin were her pride and joy. She poured her heart and soul into their upbringing, loving them unconditionally and teaching them to do the same. Marcia set the perfect example of loving thy neighbor as thyself.

Marcia attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she shined as a majorette in the Pride of the Southland Band. She was a proud Tennessee Vol who gave back to her school through her service on the Board of Trustees and The President’s Council for the University.

Marcia possessed a remarkable intellect and natural empathy that drove her successful career in her family’s cemetery business. She served as President of both the Cemetery Association of Tennessee in 1993-1994 and The Southern Cemetery, Cremation, and Funeral Association in 1998-1999. Her dedication and commitment to her work were unparalleled, earning her the admiration and respect of her colleagues.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Marcia had a profound impact on her community. She was unwavering in her passion for people and causes in which she believed. She was fiercely loyal and never tired of doing the right things the right way. She was a gentle but mighty force.

Marcia attended Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville and was active in her church community. She cherished her women’s bible study group and was actively communicating with them until her death.

floral squareGod’s gifts to Marcia as He draws her near are peace, comfort, and eternal life. God gives to us the legacy of her love, compassion and strength that guides us, the stories that make us smile, and the memories of who she was that make us so proud. With gratitude, we remember a life well-lived, and a precious soul deeply loved.

The family will hold a service and burial this week and will hold a Celebration of Life / Gathering of Friends from 4-6pm Tuesday, June 27th at the Belle Meade Country Club, 815 Belle Meade Blvd., Nashville, TN 37205.

Larry was born December 2, 1941, in Springfield, to the late Tom and Margaret Wright Pinson. He was a lifelong farmer and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, UT Vols sports, and watching his westerns on TV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister: Jean Pitt.

The world lost a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother on June 13, 2023. Carolyn Faye Pape, age 72, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.

Burial followed in EverRest of Cheatham with her grandsons, and Ethan Buyukolmez, Logan Johnson, and Jeremy Muzzall serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 16th from 4:00-7:00PM, and again on Saturday beginning at 10:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Carolyn was born on May 5, 1951 in Farmington, Michigan to the late Lloyd & Alice Nicholson Lawson. She was a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many. She peacefully passed away, leaving behind cherished memories.

Raised in California, Carolyn embraced her identity as a “valley girl” and treasured her experiences growing up in the Golden State. However, it was in Tennessee that she found her true sense of belonging. Carolyn’s warm heart and welcoming nature made her a beloved member of her community.

Above all, Carolyn was a devoted mother who wholeheartedly invested her time and love in her children’s lives. She actively participated in their school activities and extracurricular pursuits, serving as their constant source of support and encouragement. This dedication extended to her role as a grandmother, where she found immense joy in watching her grandchildren blossom. Whether it was cheering Makenna on during her dance performances or attending Luke, Weston, and Garrett’s football games and wrestling matches, Carolyn reveled in their achievements and took pride in their accomplishments.

One of Carolyn’s passions was her love for the musical “Wicked.” Her enthusiasm for the show was unparalleled, and she proudly boasted having seen it an impressive 19 times. Her deep appreciation for the arts showcased her vibrant personality and zest for life.

Carolyn possessed a unique gift—the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone she encountered. Her friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others made her a beloved figure in her community. Whether it was a neighbor or a stranger in an elevator, Carolyn’s ability to connect with people left a lasting impression. Her absence leaves an immense void in the lives of those who knew her best.

Carolyn’s loving nature, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness will be deeply missed. As we gather to celebrate her life, let us hold on to the memories of her warm conversations, her unwavering support, and her passion for life.

Carolyn’s legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, who carry her love and spirit within them. May her memory inspire us to approach life with the same warmth and kindness that she exemplified.

Obituary for Annette Spicer

Stacey “Annette” Spicer, age 75, of Joelton, Tennessee, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at her home.

Her wishes were to be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Spicer was born on September 11, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Ebon & Mildred Rohden Warren. She was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jr. Spicer; grandson, Cody Clark; son-in-law, Randy Clark; brother, Eugene Warren; and sister, Joyce Warren.

Obituary for David Lee McCarter Sr.

Age 66 of Bowling Green, KY passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Bowling Green Medical Center. He was born June 18, 1956 in Nashville, TN to Robert Lee & Esther Katherine Goins McCarter. He worked as a mechanic most of his life and also was employed with ABG Caulking and Water Proofing for 26 years. He enjoyed drag racing, racing and repairing hot rods, fishing and landscaping in his yard and for others.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rickey Dale McCarter. He is survived by his sons, Chris McCarter (Ashley Siegle), Bowling Green, KY and David McCarter, Jr., (Tammy), Portland, TN; sister, Sharon Martin (Dale), Macon, GA; 6 grandchildren, Seth, Logan, Liam, Taylor, Hailey and Chloe; 4 great-grandchildren, Aleiyah, Brystal, Gunner and Chance.

Obituary for William Bruce Edwards

William Bruce Edwards, age 67, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Mr. Edwards was born July 13, 1955 in Nashville, to the late George William “G.W.” and Maybelle Murphy Edwards. He was a equipment operator, all things auto, and all things construction expert.
