Hoover Wins Primary, Speaks on Growth, Budget, and Public Safety
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (SMOKEY BARN NEWS): Keith Hoover has secured the lead in the Robertson County mayoral primary, receiving 1,577 votes, ahead of John Edwards with 997 votes and Bubba Dorris with 383, according to unofficial results. Following his victory, Smokey Barn News spoke with Hoover about the campaign, the message from voters, and his priorities moving forward.
What do you believe was the biggest factor in your victory?
“I was out in the community every chance I got. If there was an event happening, I was there listening to concerns, talking to people, and connecting face-to-face.”
What message do you think voters in Robertson County were sending with this election?
“That Robertson County is a great place to live as long as we manage the growth in a responsible way.”
What are your top priorities as you move toward taking office?
“The Robertson County Budget Committee starts meeting on May 12, and this will be the budget that runs the county during my first year in office. I want to be involved with the process and make sure we’re being responsible with taxpayer dollars from day one.”
Are there any immediate issues facing the county that you plan to address first?
“Fire protection is something we can’t afford to overlook. Right now, parts of our county have an ISO rating of 10. That’s as bad as it gets. We’ve got to do better by making sure our volunteer fire departments are fully equipped, properly staffed, and ready when emergencies happen. It’s not only a safety concern, but it affects insurance premiums as well.”
What would you say to residents who supported your opponents?
“All I ask is for the chance to earn your support. I’ll work for every Robertson Countian and focus on what makes our communities special.”
How do you plan to work with the County Commission and other local leaders moving forward?
“Good government comes down to respect and communication. I’ll work with the County Commission, not around them. No surprises, just honest, early input. I’ll stay accessible, keep folks informed, and focus on results. At the end of the day, it’s not about credit, but about getting it right for the people we serve.”
What changes, if any, do you hope residents will notice during your term as mayor?
“I want folks to notice a county government that’s more responsive, more transparent, and easier to work with. Calls get returned. Problems don’t sit on a desk; they get addressed. People feel like they’re being heard, not ignored. I also want them to see better coordination between the county, cities, and schools so we’re using taxpayer dollars wisely and getting real results. I want residents to feel confident that their local government is working for them.”
Looking back on the campaign, what moment stands out to you the most?
“Honestly, tonight (election night) was the most memorable moment of the campaign. It was the culmination of 7 months of hard work, and having almost everyone who helped make it possible together in one place was truly special.”
Who would you like to thank tonight?
“First and foremost, I want to thank my wife, Erica, and my daughter, Emma, for their constant love and support. I also want to thank all of my supporters and volunteers who worked so hard on this campaign. This wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
“A special thank you to BS Brew Works for hosting such a great event. Looking around and seeing all the smiling faces of people who were so happy with the outcome filled me with overwhelming gratitude. The only thing that could have made it better was if my dad could have been there to celebrate with us.”
Now that the primary is over, what comes next for you between now and the general election?
“I will stay fully engaged from now until I am sworn in, including attending all committee meetings and staying involved in the work being done.”
In closing…
“I want to sincerely thank everyone who cast a vote for me. To those who didn’t, I appreciate you as well and look forward to working hard every day to earn your trust and support moving forward.”
