Firefighters Make Good Stop After Springfield Area Home Ignites Late Monday
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Multiple fire departments responded to a residential structure fire in the 6000 block of Highway 49 East just outside Springfield city limits Monday night.
Officials told Smokey Barn News that the fire likely originated in the attic of the single-story structure, the first call coming into 911 at approximately 11:08 p.m.
The Springfield Fire Department was the first to arrive on scene and reported flames visible from the attic. The Cross Plains Fire Department, which had jurisdiction and led the response, was assisted by both the Orlinda and Springfield Fire Departments. The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and Robertson County EMS assisted.
According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, firefighters made a “good stop,” preventing the fire from consuming the entire residence. Jackson thanked both the Orlinda and Springfield fire departments for their assistance.
The right side of the home consisted primarily of two garage areas, where much of the fire damage occurred. Flames did extend into a portion of the living area, with Jackson estimating roughly a 50-50 split between the affected and preserved portions of the structure.
Although the home may ultimately be considered a total loss, much of the living quarters escaped direct fire damage, Jackson said. Smoke and water damage are expected, but the successful stop could allow the occupants to recover belongings from portions of the home that were spared.
No injuries were reported.
