After 44 Years Of Service, Springfield Fire Chief Jimmy Hamill Retires

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Current and former city leaders, first-responders and family all gathered at the Springfield Fire Department Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the 44-year career of Springfield Fire Chief Jimmy Hamill as he steps into retirement.

Smokey Barn News was invited to attend the very special surprise farewell for Chief Hamill and we have captured it for you.

Chief Hamill started his career with the Springfield Fire Department in 1976, there were just ten firefighters. Today there are 33. “He has seen the department grow,” said former Springfield Mayor Billy Paul Carneal. “He loved what he was doing, he knew what he was doing. It’s the job that he chose for his lifetime work and his love and dedication were shown every day. We are so proud of him and this department, they loved him.”

Chief Hamill has been tremendous for this job,” said Springfield Mayor Ann Schneider. “We will miss him but we congratulate him on his new chapter.”
