Alert Neighbor Finds Unconscious/Injured Motorcyclist After Crash

STORY UPDATED

COOPERTOWN TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash in Coopertown Wednesday evening.

According to Robertson County EMS Assistant Director Russell Gupton, the rider was unresponsive and in critical condition when medics arrived. The rider was suffering from “multi-system trauma,” Gupton said. The rider was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville via LifeFlight.

gap-hiring-300cOfficials told Smokey Barn News that the call to 911 came in at 6:23pm but they are not sure when the crash occurred. There were no witnesses, and when first responders arrived, the Honda CF4 Motorcycle, was already cool to the touch. The accident was discovered by Debbie Oakley, who happened to be passing by, officials said.

Oakley passed the area but the obscurity of the crash in the brush made it difficult to make out what it was.  She decided to stop and take a closer look to be sure. What she found hidden off the roadway in the trees and grass was a mangled motorcycle and an unconscious rider, now identified as Thomas “Chris” Dailey, 27, of Cedar Hill Tennessee.

According to THP accident investigators at the scene, the motorcyclist was traveling North on McMahan Hollow Rd near the I24 overpass. (Location of crash) The THP said the rider drifted off the roadway onto the left shoulder of the road following a curve, traveling about 100 feet before crashing into a row of trees.

According to a preliminary THP report obtained by Smokey Barn News, Dailey left the roadway and collided with a series of trees. The motorcycle then hit a hole and began to flip, throwing the Dailey forward. The motorcycle made at least one full turn before landing on top of the him.

Chris’ Mother Teri Holt told Smokey Barn News that Chris is doing good. “Had two surgeries and don’t think he will have to have anymore. Still working on memory. Hoping to get him out of the bed today. Improving everyday.”

Teri Holt is grateful to Debbie Oakley for finding her son in time to save his life.
