Construction Worker Hit, Critically Injured On Hwy 49

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A construction worker is in critical condition after he was struck by a passing vehicle on Hwy 49 just outside of Springfield Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred just before 7 pm on Hwy 49 near Owens Chapel Rd. MAP From what we have learned so far, the worker was part of the Moore Construction company out of Clarksville contracted to re-line piping in the area.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has closed Hwy 49 to perform an accident reconstruction. No word ho how long the road will be closed.

Traffic heading North is being diverted to Wilks Rd and Southbound traffic at Willian Woodard Rd. until the investigation has been completed.

According to Robertson County EMS, the injured worker is in critical condition and has been transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

According to Fire Chief Tommy Jackson with the Cross Plains Fire Department, the driver of the vehicle is on the scene and communicating with authorities.

As soon as we can get an update on his condition we will bring it to you.

The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Robertson County Sheriff Office, the Cross Plains Fire Department and Robertson County EMS all responded to the call.
