Cross Plains Area Home Destroyed In Early Morning Fire

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Cross Plains area home has been destroyed in a four-alarm fire that started around 3:30 am Sunday morning.

The home is located just off Hwy 76 on Whispering Oaks Dr. which sits between Herbert Shannon Rd and Old Distillery Rd. MAP

Icy road conditions and single digit temperatures played havoc with equipment as firefighters from  Cross Plains, Orlinda, Greenbrier and White House Community battled the blaze.

According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, the resident woke to find her bedroom filled with smoke and fire.

Several fire engines became stuck in the snow and water pumps froze in the frigid air, Chief Jackson said.

The single occupant and her dog escaped the fire safely, according to the Emergency Management Agency. E.M.A. Deputy Director Chance Holmes put the resident in contact with the American Red Cross.

The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

No word on a cause of the fire at this time.
