Fatal Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of Veteran And Father

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A fatal motorcycle crash near Cross Plains Sunday morning has taken the life of a local war veteran, husband, and father.

The crash occurred on Cross Plains Rd between West Cook Rd and Boyles Rd just before 7:30 am Sunday morning. MAP According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Justin Lannom, 28, of Springfield, an Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran, husband, and father of two, lost his life in the crash.

According to the preliminary report, Lannom was traveling north on Cross Plains Rd on his Harley-Davidson FLH when he initiated a left curve. Lannom veered off the right side of the road and encountered loose gravel and struck a tree.

The impact caused the motorcycle to spin out of control and hit a second tree.  The motorcycle came to rest in the middle of the roadway. Lannom was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Lannom’s wife, Lorna Lannom, was following and witnessed the crash. According to her, Justin was wearing a helmet but it flew off with the force of the crash.

Cross Plains Rd was closed for about two hours while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash.

The Cross Plains Fire Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Robertson County EMS and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency all responded to the call.

“I just want everyone to know how great of a man my husband is. He would do anything for anyone and give the clothes off his own back to a stranger.” Lorna Lannom

As soon as service information has been set we will add the information to our story.

The thoughts and prayers of the staff at Smokey Barn News will be with the Lannom family and friends as they face the difficult days ahead.
