Fatal Motorcycle Crash Claims One In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A motorcycle crash on Old Greenbrier Pike in Springfield has claimed one life, officials said.

The crash occurred sometime overnight and was discovered by a resident who notified Springfield Police just before 7 am Wednesday.

The crash occurred in the 3700 block of Old Greenbrier Pike near Legacy Village Apartments at the curve. MAP

The rider, now identified by the THP as Douglas Heighton, 57, of Greenbrier Tennessee, and the motorcycle (a 2005 Harley Davidson) landed in the yard of a home on Old Greenbrier Pike. According to Robertson County EMS, Heighton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the preliminary description of the crash released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Heighton was traveling at a high rate of speed when he exited the roadway left before striking two trees.

The Springfield Police Department, the Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS and EMA, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the crash.
