Fire Engulfs American Legion Building In White House

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The American Legion building located on Highway 31W in White House is a total loss after a fire tore through the structure Wednesday evening. The call came into dispatch just after 10:00 PM..

The White House Fire Dept, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS and White House Police have responded to the fire.

According to Commander Carl Fairbanks with the American Legion, a White House Police officer smelled smoke and turned his vehicle around. After turning around he looked up and saw the build engulfed in flames.

Fairbanks told Smokey Barn News the building is used for many different events and groups. The Boy Scouts, churches, birthday parties, family reunions and weddings are just some of the things that the building is used for. The American Legion Auxiliary also uses the facility, Fairbanks said.

According to Officials, the building is going to be classified as a total loss. According to White House Fire Chief Joe Palmer, the cause of the fire is still not understood, however, it is believed, preliminarily, that the fire started at the back of the structure. No injuries were reported in the fire.

The American Legion in White House Post 206 has been operating out of the same building on highway 31W since World War II and was renovated by volunteers with donations and materials back in 2016 (See Story)
