ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A hunt for a man suspected of shooting a Hendersonville police officer has ended with his death following a shootout with Kentucky State Police, officials said.

According to Hendersonville Police, Kentucky State Police located 34-year-old Samuel Quinton Edwards, near Louisville. Following a police chase and shootout, Edwards was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, Edwards allegedly shot and injured a Hendersonville police officer during a police pursuit Monday. The officer, who sustained non-critical injuries, has since been released from the hospital.

This morning, authorities issued a Blue Alert as the search for  Edwards moved into Robertson County.

According to Millersville Police, the vehicle Edwards was allegedly driving was located on Cycle Lane off of Bethel Road this morning in Robertson County. (SEARCH AREA) The discovery triggered a massive search.

Authorities employed K9s on the ground and helicopters in the air to search for Edwards.

Edwards was wanted by Metro Nashville PD and TBI for Attempted Criminal Homicide and Evading Arrest by Motor Vehicle as well as Attempted 1st Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer. The

TBI considered Edwards armed and dangerous issuing a Blue Alert for him on Tuesday morning.

Hendersonville Police official Release: ​On June 27, 2022, Officer Ferrell of the Hendersonville Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a black minivan at the Vietnam Veterans Blvd. and West Main Street entrance. The vehicle fled from a traffic stop. The driver, Samuel Quinton Edwards (34), fired several shots at Officer Ferrell on the ramp to Vietnam Veterans Blvd. Officer Ferrell continued the pursuit southbound on Vietnam Veterans.

Hendersonville Police notified Metro Police as the pursuit entered Metro Nashville jurisdiction. Hendersonville Police backed off and maintained a visual of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle exited onto Old Hickory Blvd. He again fired numerous shots at Officer Ferrell. A round fired by Edwards struck Officer Ferrell. He continued on Old Hickory Blvd after Officer Ferrell was injured by a round.

Hendersonville Police, Metro Police Department, Millersville Police Department. FBI Task Force, THP, and TBI. The investigation by each of the above jurisdictions working in unison led to Edwards being located in Louisville, KY. He engaged in a shootout with Kentucky State Police and Edwards is deceased.

Officer Cameron Ferrell was hired by Hendersonville Police Department on June 28, 2021. He was shot one day prior to his one-year anniversary. Prior to his employment with Hendersonville Police Department he worked at Gallatin Police Department for several years. He currently works on the “B” detail (1430 hrs to 2300 hrs) and is a member of the Hendersonville SWAT team. He has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
