Greenbrier Shopping Center Ignites Wednesday Morning

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A shopping center on Hwy 41 in Greenbrier ignited Wednesday morning causing traffic delays for several hours.

The center is located at 2431 US-41 at Cuniff Dr, the first call coming into 911 at 9:52 am. MAP

The blaze triggered a multi-agency response that included the Greenbrier Fire Department with firefighters from Ridgetop, Millersville, Springfield, and the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department. Together they teamed up and squelched the fire rapidly.

Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire that started at the far left end of the center in a section used for storage. Firefighters quickly choked off the fire and prevented it from spreading to adjacent businesses. Fortunately, the end section had its own power service so when power was interrupted to the end unit adjacent businesses were unaffected. It’s what Firefighters call a good stop.

Hwy 41 was shut down for just over 30 minutes when officials opened two lanes. 41 was fully reopened around noon.

As far as the cause of the fire, Greenbrier Fire Chief Kyle Hamill said the investigative team will be looking into the possibility that a forklift may have played some part but it’s just too early to tell. Chief Hamill is not calling the fire suspicious at this time but the fire is under investigation.

Chief Hamill wanted to thank all the fire departments that responded. “All of the departments that responded were a great help to us today, including great help from the Greenbrier Police Department, Robertson County EMS, and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency. Thank you all so much!”
