Hwy 49 Crash Claims One Life Near Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A fatal Hwy 49 crash near Springfield Thursday has taken one life, officials said.
The crash occurred on Hwy 49 near Krisle Elementary Thursday afternoon. The vehicle, a 2002 Ford F150, left the roadway and impacted a tree head-on. LOCATION OF CRASH
UPDATE: As far as the cause of the crash, the Tennessee Highway Patrol released the following preliminary description: Traveling east on Highway 49, the driver failed to maintain the lane of travel, running off the roadway (right) the vehicle struck a culvert, a fence, and impacted a tree.
Medics worked to save the driver, now identified as 67-year-old Susan Malmberg of Joelton TN, but ultimately she succumbed to her injuries.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Initially, Hwy 49 was closed. By 4:50 pm one lane was open.
The Cross Plains Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
This is the second fatal crash on Robertson County roads in less than a week. On Sunday one person died in an accident on Hwy 76. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area near Oakland Rd. The driver has yet to be officially identified. MORE
