Obituary for Ann “Betty” Elizabeth King

Ann “Betty” Elizabeth Crawford King, age 86 of White House went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 2, 2024. She was born May 21, 1938 in Goodlettsville, TN to Amos & Ann Catherine Crawford. She worked at Vanderbilt University until her retirement after 42 years of service and was a dedicated Vandy fan. She was a member of Calvary Chapel at Long Hollow and loved her church family very much. She loved studying God’s Word and spending time with her family more than anything else.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter King; and sister Barbara Crawford Jamieson. She is survived by her son, Gary (Pat) King, Nashville, TN; daughter, Penny (Ricky) Fitzgerald, Cottontown, TN; sister, Sandra Crawford, Hendersonville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Davis King, Erin (Tyler) Beaudoin, Sarah Fitzgerald, and Mary (Brad) Anderson; 4 great-grandchildren, TK, Stratton, and Cade Beaudoin, and Lucy Ann Anderson.

floral squareThe funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Pastor Jerry McAnulty officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery with Davis King, Bob Jamieson, Mark Jamieson, Ed Jamieson, Jeff Hatcher, and Chris Madish serving as pallbearers. Visitation is planned for Friday, December 6, 2024 4pm-7pm and Saturday, December 7, 2024 10am-12pm at the funeral home.

Obituary for Joe Nixon Armstrong

Joe Nixon Armstrong passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. He was born in Springfield on October 28, 1951 to the late James and Jean Nixon Armstrong.

He graduated from Springfield High School, where he played football and basketball. He then attended Austin Peay State University and proudly served in the Army National Guard. As a younger man he enjoyed playing on a men’s softball league, bowling, golfing, and playing pool.

Joe was an avid musician. From rock, to country, to gospel, and praise & worship, he always belonged to a band throughout his life.
He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. There he played bass guitar alongside some of his dearest lifelong friends in the praise & worship band for many years until his passing.

He was a master carpenter by trade and raised cattle on the family’s beloved Maple Bluff Farm. He enjoyed fishing at Sulphur Fork creek, and in more recent years he could often be found fishing at Wartrace Lake.

Joe will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as unapologetically being his own man, exemplified keeping his faith in God in the face of adversity, and fiercely loving the Lord and his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jamie Armstrong Swann.

floral squareHe leaves behind his beloved wife, Jane Smalling Armstrong, of 42 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 children; Lana (Jose) Armstrong Miguez, Molly Armstrong, and Ross (Miriam) Armstrong, and 6 grandchildren. His cherished grandchildren include Eden, Isla, Makyla, Jamey, Boone, and Jackson; they affectionately referred to him as “Gandy”. He is also survived by his brother, Bob (Beverly) Armstrong, and by his nephews Derek Armstrong and John Armstrong whom he dearly loved.

He will be greatly missed by many dear cousins and friends.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Sunday December 8th, with visitation from 2:00-4:00 and service at 4:00.

Obituary for Joyce Ann Reeves 

Joyce Ann Reeves, age 83, of Cross Plains, passed away on Wednesday November 27, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Goodlettsville.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Noss officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday December 1st from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Monday December 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Joyce Ann was born October 31, 1941, in Cross Plains to the late Leonard and Velma Barry Tate. She was born on the farm and was raised to work in the fields and to attend church and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Joyce Ann graduated from East Robertson High School in 1960 and was the class Valedictorian. She chose secretarial work as her profession, and started the first day after graduation working for the State of Tennessee. She worked in Personnel, Inheritance Income Tax, and the Department of Human Services for 15 years, holding a top position in Inheritance Income Department. She retired from the State and became co-owner of a small grocery, Reeves Bi-Rite, where she worked for 15 years and always loved her customers. After the business was sold in 1986, she worked in the lab at Jesse Holman Jones Hospital and then at NorthCrest Medical Center for the next 16 years of her life. Joyce Ann retired early in order to care for her elderly parents, and was able to enjoy three wonderful years with them before their death. She then got to share time with Iva, Chris, and her grandchildren, which she treasured. Joyce Ann loved working in her yard and, most of all, having the time to thank the Lord for His many blessings.

floral squareIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Thomas Tate, and by her sister, Datha Tate Munday. Joyce Ann is survived by her daughter: Iva Reeves Biggs and husband Chris of Springfield, and by her grandchildren: Sadie, Josh, Laura, David, and Jacob Biggs all of Springfield.

Obituary for Effie Cowan 

Effie D. Cowan, 93, of Bowling Green, KY and formerly of Adairville, KY, passed from this life on Tuesday November 26, 2024, at the Chandler Park Assisted Living Center in Bowling Green, KY.

Graveside services were conducted Friday November 29th at 1:00 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville, KY, with her son, Reverend Ken Cowan officiating. Family and friends served as pallbearers. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Ms. Effie was born November 3, 1931, in Adairville, KY to the late William Thomas and Lena Sircy Hardin. She was a homemaker and a founding member of Living Word Church in Adairville, KY, where she was still a member at the time of her death. Ms. Effie was a dedicated pastor’s wife for over 48 years. She loved sewing, knitting, working in her church, and spending time with her family.

Delores Rayburn, 62, of White House, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born July 6, 1962, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Carlos E. Broadway and Emma Frances Smith Broadway.

Delores was a gifted seamstress, known for her beautifully crafted creations that brought joy to those who wore them. Her quick wit and candid nature made her a cherished companion among family and friends. Delores had an extraordinary ability to express her thoughts openly, a trait that endeared her to those around her. Whether engaging in heartfelt conversations or sharing a light-hearted joke, she made an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones.

In addition to her seamstress skills, Delores found joy in shopping and cooking, showing her creative flair in every aspect of her life. From preparing delicious meals to curating stylish outfits, her passions illustrated her zest for life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ricky Broadway.

She leaves behind her beloved children, Drew Rayburn and Meredith (Christopher Ryan) Stout, who carry forward her spirit and memories.

William Vestal Malugen, Sr

August 3, 1946 — November 27, 2024

William Vestal Malugen, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great great grandfather, passed away on November , 2024 at the age of 78. Born on August 3, 1946, William was known for his funny, jokester demeanor and his happy-go-lucky personality that brought joy to all who knew him.

William’s life was filled with love and laughter particularly from his family, who were his proudest accomplishments. He cherished the role of “Pawpaw” to his children and grandchildren, pouring his heart into making them feel special and loved. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Mrs. Kathy Malugen; his son, William Malugen, Jr.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Each moment spent with them was a treasure he held dear. He is also survived by his dear special friend, Bill Deaver.

In addition to his immediate family, William is remembered fondly by his siblings, Ricky Malugen, Wilburn Malugen, and Charles Taylor, who will carry forward his legacy of joy and laughter.

William had a zest for life that was truly admirable. He found immense happiness in the simple pleasures of fishing, spending days at the beach, boating adventures, and camping under the stars. These hobbies filled his life with memorable experiences and provided a backdrop for many cherished family gatherings.

floral squareWilliam was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Myrtle Malugen, who instilled in him the values of kindness and humor, and will be met again with love. He also joins in eternal rest his beloved grandson, Christopher Malugen, along with his brother, Horace Taylor, who will be remembered as part of his cherished history.

The spirit of William Vestal Malugen, Sr. will continue to shine through the laughter and love he shared with family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of joy and a reminder to cherish every moment with those we love. He will be greatly missed.

A graveside service honoring Mr. Bush will be held Monday, December 2nd at 1pm at Lutons United Methodist Church Cemetery in Goodlettsville, TN.

Obituary for Mable Lucy Balthrop

Mable Lucy Boyd Balthrop of the Thomasville Community passed away on November 29, 2024, at Signature Health Care in Clarksville, Tennessee, at the age of 103.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 o’clock pm, Monday, December 2nd, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Mike Scoggins officiating.

Burial will follow in Mallory’s Methodist Church Cemetery with family & friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 1st, from 1:00-5:00PM, and again on Monday beginning at 11:00AM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Mrs. Balthrop was born to George and Ida Fort Boyd on February 17, 1921. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse Balthrop; her daughter, Betty Farmer; and grandson, Shane Ford; her sister, Bessie Farmer; and 3 brothers, Howard, Archie, and Bill Boyd.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Bonna (Larry) Rediker of Thomasville and Hilda (Jimmy) Ford of Ashland City.

She loved her family very much and was always ready to help them out when she was needed. After retiring from Acme Boot she enjoyed traveling, gardening, mowing her yard, sewing, and crocheting, and spending time with family and friends.

Obituary for Edward Mario Novi

Edward Mario Novi, age 74 of White House passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024 at NHC Sumner Place in Gallatin, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born May 13, 1950 in San Francisco, CA to Edwardo Bromosco & Gloria Celestina Dellamaggiore Novi. He worked in Public Relations for AT&T until his retirement. Mr. Novi proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He loved listening to music, especially jazz. He played clarinet and guitar and was an avid San Francisco Giants fan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Victoria Boone Novi; brother, David Novi. He is survived by his daughters, Antonella (Paco) Novandez, Anacortes, WA and Laura Dawn Novi, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; devoted friend and caregiver, Erik Anderson, White House, TN.

A Celebration of Life was held at 4 pm on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, TN with Bro. Jason Bell officiating. The family received friends from 2pm until time of service at 4pm.

Tammy was born May 9, 1959 in Marshall, MO to the late William and Evelyn Croney. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Croney and her grandmother, Pearl Cook.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Tammy loved her family so very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She will truly be missed.

Obituary for Laura Denise Poole

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Laura Denise Poole “Mudd”, age 70, of Goodlettsville, who passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Skyline Medical Center while being treated for an injury.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30pm Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in the Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11am until 1pm Tuesday, December 3rd at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.

Laura was born August 24, 1954, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late George M. Poole and the late Aline Clifton Poole. She retired from the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration where she was an Accounting Technician 2 for 39 years. Her hobbies included baking, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and crocheting. Laura was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Poole was proceeded in death by her paternal grandparents, James Henry and Lyda Emma Witt Poole; and maternal grandparents, Dewey E. and Minnie M. Williams Clifton.
