Obituary for John Robert Faulkner

John Robert Faulkner, age 85 of Greenbrier passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at his home. He was born October 10, 1938 in Murfreesboro, TN to Clyde and Ethel Stacey Faulkner. He worked as an accountant for Keith Simmons, Inc. until his retirement. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, golfing, watching all kinds of sports on television and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Faulkner; sister, Jane Lee. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Faulkner, Greenbrier, TN; daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Adams, Greenbrier, TN; 3 grandchildren, Tyler (Julie) Judge, White House, TN, Chelsey (Derek) Hough, Westmoreland, TN and Logan (Luke) Judge-Morelli, Clarksville, TN; 4 great-grandchildren, Anna, DJ, Lillian and Leo.

Obituary for Clifton Eugene “Chip” Corlew Jr

Clifton Eugene Corlew, Jr. “Chip”, age 67 of Lebanon, TN passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Vanderbilt Wilson County. He was born July 31, 1956 in Nashville, TN to Clifton Eugene Corlew, Sr. & Helen Juanita Smithson Corlew. He worked as Chief of Maintenance for the Hermitage Hotel. Chip was a gifted artist. His beautiful paintings and drawings are so detailed. He also was a talented musician and songwriter. He enjoyed playing guitar and doing wood crafting.

Obituary for Jeffrey Scott Farrell

Jeffrey Scott Farrell, age 65, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at the NorthCrest Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30pm Thursday, December 14th in the Eddy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Princeton, Ky.

The family will receive friends from 10am until 12pm Thursday at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.

Mr. Farrell was born December 9, 1957 in Ramsey, Minnesota to the late Edward and Jeanne Garske Farrell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and the Owner Operator of Adams Cabinet Shop in Adams, TN.

Obituary for Angela Mantlow 

Angela Marie Mantlow, 57, of Springfield passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023, at her residence.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bobby Ray Mantlow officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Ms. Mantlow was born on September 18, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan. She worked as a CNA and was a member at South Haven Baptist Church. Angela lived a simple life, but she enjoyed cooking and helping other people. She relished watching reality TV when she was home, especially Judge Judy. She loved her kids, but she loved her grandchildren a little bit more. Ms. Mantlow is preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Faye Mantlow Adams.

Angela is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Ashlie Mantlow (James E.) of Springfield, Georgia Mantlow of Springfield, Antonia Birdwell (Marty) of Goodlettsville, Analeasa Mantlow Harper (Christopher) of Clarksville, and Rejeana Hull Gray (Derrick) of North Carolina, by her brother: Buzzy Capalungan of Adams, by her sisters and brother-in-law: Rhonda Hollis of Barren floral squarePlains, and Cristina Barnhart (Jeff) of Cedar Hill, by her grandchildren: Katie, Ivyana, Israel, Isaac, Harmoney, Analaya, Wesley, Angela, Marlie, Yara, Karlie, Ayda Grace, Colton, Lincoln, and Elianna, and one great-grandchild on the way.

Peggy Jean Nixon Wair, 76, of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday December 6, 2023, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday December 10th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Barlow officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery with Dave Binkley, Darren Shreve, Robert Lynn, Keith Harris, Phil Spicer, and Kenneth Hardaway serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Ms. Peggy was born September 13, 1947, in Nashville, to the late Sidney Herman and Addie Louise Hobdy Nixon. She was a member of Victory Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired cafeteria worker for the Robertson County Board of Education, having worked in different schools and was working at Jo Byrns at the time of her retirement. Ms. Peggy loved collecting dolls, reading, shopping, cooking and canning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Edna Ruth Whitaker, Reither Louise Hall, Mary Jeanette Carter, Albert David, Herman Moore, and Billy Byrns Nixon, and by her stepson: William Wair.

Obituary for Josie Gray 

Josephine Louise “Josie” Gray, age 67 of Cedar Hill, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at her home.

A time of visitation with the family was held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 12 noon until 4 PM at Robertson County Funeral Home. Following the visitation, in accordance with her wishes, her remains were cremated.

Josie was born July 21, 1956 in Springfield to the late Horace and Peggy Blick Walker. She was a retired cook with the Robertson County Schools and also served as a caretaker for the sick. She was a loving wife and mother and also loved flower gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Tom Walker and Rodney Dale Walker.

Obituary for Janice Hogue

Janice Fay Hogue, age 77, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Residence of Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock am on Monday, December 11th, at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hollis and Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in Good Springs Cemetery with her grandsons, Robert Nicholson, and Wayne Hunter serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Sunday, December 10th from 1-5:00PM and again on Monday at Good Springs FWB Church from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Hogue was born on October 6, 1946, in Ashland City, Tennessee, to the late James & Mabel Morris Simmons. She was a retired beautician having worked for over 50 years. She enjoyed taking senior trips with her church group and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Gideons International – Cheatham County Camp and a longtime member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Hogue; and sister, Lynda Bowling.

Obituary for Jimmy Ray Brown

Jimmy Ray Brown, age 74 of Goodlettsvile passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield. He was born January 16, 1949 in Lafayette, GA to James Raymond & Barbara Wilson Brown. He worked as a supervisor for DET Distributing until his retirement and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He loved playing softball and golf and he enjoyed bowling.

Obituary for Larry Gregory

Larry Arnold Gregory, age 86 of Hendersonville, Tennessee, died Monday, December 4, 2023 at Elite Elderly Care after battling Parkinson’s disease for several years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Friday, December 15 from 1-3 pm. Family and friends are invited to come and celebrate his life and share memories with his family. A private graveside service will be held at an earlier date.

Mr. Gregory was born on December 6, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Carney Lee and Lois Clark Gregory. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and had retired from Ford Glass Plant after 35 years of service. He was a Christian and loved to fellowship with his church family. His hobbies included woodworking and spending time with his family. His humor and quick wit were enjoyed by all of those around him. He had a love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Gregory; sister, Donna Gregory Williams; nephews, Darby Felts and Philip G. Sanders.

Rose Ann McCroy, age 70, of Springfield, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Thursday, December 7th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 4-8pm Wednesday and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Ms. McCroy was born December 14, 1952 to the late Lewis and Dorothy Knight McCroy. She was in the banking business all her life. Ms. McCroy was a Teller with Volunteer State Bank, Investors Federal Bank, and Bank of Goodlettsville. She moved through the ranks and continued her career with F&M Bank where she held the positions of Assistant Loan Officer, Head Mortgage Loan Specialist, and finally as Vice-President of the bank.

In addition to her parents, Ms. McCroy was preceded in death by a grandchild, Raegan Pitt; brothers, Lewis McCroy Jr., and Mark McCroy; and sisters, Sandra Lassiter and Carolyn Choate.

Obituary for Thurman Gregg 

Thurman Ray Gregg passed away peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2023. Thurman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born October 5, 1932 to James F. and Hallie J. Gregg. He was born in St. Louis. MO, but soon moved to Springfield, TN where he remained until his death. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1951. He played football under Coach Boyce Smith where he was a star quarterback. Thurman received a football scholarship at Union University. He joined the United States Navy, spending four years serving our country during the Korean War as it ended. On his return, he graduated from MTSU. His career with the state of Tennessee spanned more than 35 years. He was a National Marketing Representative for the Department of Economic Development. He was an avid golfer his entire life. He was a member of Springfield Country Club where he was known as “Dr. Golf” because of his insight and ability to help others with their game.

Mr. Gregg leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 68 years, Marlene. Thurman and Marlene enjoyed many years of traveling, spending time with family, and playing golf together. Thurman was a believer and a longtime member of Springfield Baptist Church.

Thurman was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Hal Gregg; son and daughter-in-law, Steven J. and Rita F. Gregg; and brothers, Jack and J.R. Gregg. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; sister, Wanda Gregg; granddaughters, Keri Ann Gregg and Kristen Gregg; great granddaughters, Nona and June Gregg; and sister-in-law, Patti Gregg.

Obituary for Billy Hutchison 

Billy Kemp Hutchison, age 62, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.

His remains were cremated, and a private burial will follow at a later date.

Billy was born in Springfield on March 31, 1961, to the late Henry Hutchison and Mary Lou Adams Matthews. He worked as a construction worker for Brown Builders. Mr. Hutchison enjoyed fishing in his free time. He also took great pride in coaching his sons’ Jr. Pro football teams and working on his truck. Billy loved his family above everything. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchison is preceded in death by his siblings: Ronnie Hutchison, Eddie Hutchison, and Brenda Lou Pitt, and by his niece: Mindy Louise Hutchison.

Obituary for William Carlton “Bill” Murphy Jr.

William Carlton “Bill” Murphy Jr., age 68, of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Tuesday, December 5th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. David Evans officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brandon Dodd, Matthew Stewart, Will Seeley, Jake Seeley, Taylor Wilson, and Michael Wilson serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 4-8pm Monday, and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Murphy was born June 29, 1955 in Springfield, to the late William Carlton and Gloria Faye Pollard Murphy, Sr. He was a member of the Jo Byrns Class of ’73, a Mechanical Installation Manager for Dematic for 40 years and was of the Christian faith.

She worked as a cook for Vanco Manor before her retirement. She loved cooking and listening to country music. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Charles Dean Evans, age 61 of White House, TN passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home. He was born October 27, 1962 in Atlanta, GA to Charlie Clyde & Wilma Gail Isles Evans. He worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines. He enjoyed traveling and was very proud of the fact that he had traveled to all seven continents.

Mr. Hand was born December 25, 1935 in Dickson, TN, to the late Arthur Charnel and Geneva Pentecost Hand, Sr. A.C. was married to the late Tiney Mae Hand for 66 years. He was a proud dad, Pawpaw and great grandpa and affectionately known as Uncle Junior to a host of nieces and nephews. A.C. was a jack of all trades who retired from Odom’s Tennessee Pride after 30+years of service. Mr. Hand then worked for Hunter’s Custom Cabinets as long as he was able. His stature was tall but he was a gentle and patient man. He lived a life that reflected Christ in him. A.C.’s hobbies included tinkering in his garage, fishing, Goodwill thrifting and feeding the birds and squirrels.

floral squareIn addition to his parents Mr. Hand was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tiney Mae (Bilyeu) Hand; sons, Kenneth Hand, Sr. and Jeffrey Hand; and daughter, Anita Davidson.

He is survived by his son, Ricky (Lisa) Hand; 6 grandchildren, Sean Crutcher, Kenneth (Shannon) Hand Jr., Meagan (Michael) Rogers, Michaela (Jordan) Chandler, Laura (Chris) Sabourin, and Michelle (Tim) Timmons; and sister, Annie Bilyeu.
