Obituary for Thurman Gregg
Thurman Ray Gregg passed away peacefully Thursday, November 30, 2023. Thurman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born October 5, 1932 to James F. and Hallie J. Gregg. He was born in St. Louis. MO, but soon moved to Springfield, TN where he remained until his death. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1951. He played football under Coach Boyce Smith where he was a star quarterback. Thurman received a football scholarship at Union University. He joined the United States Navy, spending four years serving our country during the Korean War as it ended. On his return, he graduated from MTSU. His career with the state of Tennessee spanned more than 35 years. He was a National Marketing Representative for the Department of Economic Development. He was an avid golfer his entire life. He was a member of Springfield Country Club where he was known as “Dr. Golf” because of his insight and ability to help others with their game.
Mr. Gregg leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 68 years, Marlene. Thurman and Marlene enjoyed many years of traveling, spending time with family, and playing golf together. Thurman was a believer and a longtime member of Springfield Baptist Church.
Thurman was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Hal Gregg; son and daughter-in-law, Steven J. and Rita F. Gregg; and brothers, Jack and J.R. Gregg. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; sister, Wanda Gregg; granddaughters, Keri Ann Gregg and Kristen Gregg; great granddaughters, Nona and June Gregg; and sister-in-law, Patti Gregg.
A Celebration of life service will be conducted in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Evans and Bro. Martin Babb officiating. Visitation begins Monday at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hix, Bob Bibb, Denny Choate, Jeff Walker, and Bobby Choate.
The family request, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to Springfield Baptist Church in Thurman’s memory. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.

Obituary for Billy Hutchison
Billy Kemp Hutchison, age 62, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.
His remains will be cremated, and a private burial will follow at a later date.
Billy was born in Springfield on March 31, 1961, to the late Henry Hutchison and Mary Lou Adams Matthews. He worked as a construction worker for Brown Builders. Mr. Hutchison enjoyed fishing in his free time. He also took great pride in coaching his sons’ Jr. Pro football teams and working on his truck. Billy loved his family above everything. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchison is preceded in death by his siblings: Ronnie Hutchison, Eddie Hutchison, and Brenda Lou Pitt, and by his niece: Mindy Louise Hutchison.
Mr. Hutchison is survived by his sons: Brad (Danielle) Hutchison of Springfield, Bert (Ashley) Hutchison of Russellville, KY, and Bruce (Teressa) Hutchison of Russellville, KY, by his brother: John Bailey Hutchison of Gallatin, by his sister: Bettye “Micki” Hopkins of Springfield, by his grandchildren: Halley, Brad, Brady, McKenna, Macy, Briley, James, Jacob, Peytlyn, Emily, and Waylon, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Obituary for William Carlton “Bill” Murphy Jr.
William Carlton “Bill” Murphy Jr., age 68, of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Tuesday, December 5th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brandon Dodd, Matthew Stewart, Will Seeley, Jake Seeley, Taylor Wilson, and Michael Wilson serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Monday, and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Murphy was born June 29, 1955 in Springfield, to the late William Carlton and Gloria Faye Pollard Murphy, Sr. He was a member of the Jo Byrns Class of ’73, a Mechanical Installation Manager for Dematic for 40 years and was of the Christian faith.
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathy Wilson Murphy; daughters, Karly Rae (Brandon) Dodd, and Kady Lynne (Matthew) Stewart; 2 grandchildren, Murphy Rae Dodd, and Liam Fraser Stewart; and sisters, Dianne (Billy) Seeley, and Melissa (Greg) Young.

Betty Jo Stark, age 83 of Springfield passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at NHC in Springfield. She was born December 31, 1939 in Nashville, TN to Woodrow & Mamie Elora Jenkins Romines. She worked as a cook for Vanco Manor before her retirement. She loved cooking and listening to country music. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Freeman Stark; sisters, Margaret Wiggins and Brenda Hood; brother Junior Romines; grandson, Thomas Maynard. She is survived by her sons, Shannon (Jodie) Stark, Portland, TN and Joe (Robin) Stark, Springfield, TN; daughter, Rita Roberts (Michael O’Saile), Springfield, TN; brother, Donnie (Sheena) Romines, Mount Juliet, TN; sister, Patsy Watson, Gallatin, TN; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.

Obituary for Charles Dean Evans
Charles Dean Evans, age 61 of White House, TN passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home. He was born October 27, 1962 in Atlanta, GA to Charlie Clyde & Wilma Gail Isles Evans. He worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines. He enjoyed traveling and was very proud of the fact that he had traveled to all seven continents.
He is preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Alex Benefield. He is survived by his sisters, Alice Earps, Lebanon, TN and Judie (Rick) Clifford, Goodlettsville,TN; two nephews, William Earps, Lebanon, TN and Dale Clifford, Hendersonville, TN.
There are no service planned. A private inurnment will be held at Nashville National Cemetery later in December.

Danny Joe Odom, age 75 of White House passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home. He was born May 25, 1948 in Augusta, GA to Willie Joe & Jettie Clay Cross Odom. He worked in car sales before his retirement. He enjoyed watching Westerns on television and visiting the beach. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pat Odom; daughter, Shelia (Bill) Leach, both of White House, TN; brother, Jackie (Sarah) Odom, Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Pam Barber, Gallatin, TN; 2 grandchildren, Haley (Gavin) Henry, Cross Plains, TN and Matthew (Katie) Leach, White House, TN; 2 great-grandchildren, Layla and Owen; several nieces and nephews.

Arthur Charnel Hand, Jr., age 87, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 2023 at NHC Springfield.
Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Friday, December 1st in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. David Crawford officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 1pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Hand was born December 25, 1935 in Dickson, TN, to the late Arthur Charnel and Geneva Pentecost Hand, Sr. A.C. was married to the late Tiney Mae Hand for 66 years. He was a proud dad, Pawpaw and great grandpa and affectionately known as Uncle Junior to a host of nieces and nephews. A.C. was a jack of all trades who retired from Odom’s Tennessee Pride after 30+years of service. Mr. Hand then worked for Hunter’s Custom Cabinets as long as he was able. His stature was tall but he was a gentle and patient man. He lived a life that reflected Christ in him. A.C.’s hobbies included tinkering in his garage, fishing, Goodwill thrifting and feeding the birds and squirrels.
In addition to his parents Mr. Hand was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tiney Mae (Bilyeu) Hand; sons, Kenneth Hand, Sr. and Jeffrey Hand; and daughter, Anita Davidson.
He is survived by his son, Ricky (Lisa) Hand; 6 grandchildren, Sean Crutcher, Kenneth (Shannon) Hand Jr., Meagan (Michael) Rogers, Michaela (Jordan) Chandler, Laura (Chris) Sabourin, and Michelle (Tim) Timmons; and sister, Annie Bilyeu.

Obituary for Wayne Moulton
Wayne B. Moulton, age 82 of Springfield, passed from this life on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his home.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tim Harris officiating. Burial followed with Randall Moulton, Tim Moulton, Dirk Moulton, Zack Moulton, Jamie Aldridge, and Jacob Aldridge serving as pallbearers. There was no visitation prior to the graveside service.
Mr. Moulton was born June 11, 1941 in Springfield to the late Clarence and Ruth Buie Moulton. He was a member of Barren Plains Baptist Church and was retired from Peterbilt. He was also a tobacco farmer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.
Surviving Wayne are his wife of 61 years, Myra J. Moulton; sons, Randall Moulton and wife, Cindy and Tim Moulton and wife, Melody, both of Springfield; sister, Judy Jenkins of Georgia; grandchildren, Dirk Moulton, Zack Moulton and wife, Brittany, Hannah Moulton, and Callie Moulton; and great grandchildren, Damien, Laine, Walyn, Weslyn, and Ella.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, especially Kasey and Triffie.

James Thomas Darks, age 79, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Thursday, November 30th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Steve Freeman officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jerry Darks, Jr., Evan Potter, Elijah Potter, Joey Darks, Kaleb Stratton, and Sean Harrell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer were Kaden Stratton.
The family received friends from 4-8pm Wednesday, November 29th and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Darks was born November 11, 1944 in Davidson County, to the late Dallas and Pearl Barnhill Darks. He was a truck driver, a member of the teamsters’ union and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Darks was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wayne Darks.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Bridges Darks; son, Jason Travis Darks; daughters, Amy Darks Potter and Jamie (Kaleb) Stratton; 7 grandchildren, Kayla (Sean) Harrell, Elijah Potter, Hannah Potter, Evan Potter, Joey Darks, Kaden Stratton, and Keelan Stratton; and 1 great grandchild, Charley Harrell.

She worked for Oscar Mayer before her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. Mrs. Ruby never met a stranger and was a people person.

Graciela Isaura Estrada, age 74 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, formerly of Guatemala, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her son’s home.
The family will receive friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Sunday, December 3rd from 1:00PM until 5:00PM. Her remains will be buried in Guatemala at a later date. Pallbearers serving are her sons and Edgar Estrada, Jr., Fernando Alvarez, and Miguel Angel Alvarez.
Ms. Estrada was born on July 6, 1949 in Guatemala to the late Braulio & Romelia Alvarez. She was a housekeeper for many years. She was an entrepreneur, very caring and loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She loved gardening and very spicy food.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo David Estrada; and brothers, Manuel Alvarez and Aurelio Alvarez.

Billy Jones, age 92, of Cedar Hill, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services were conducted at 1pm Wednesday, November 29th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Donald T. Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Billy Jones, Andy Jones, Joey Grant, Frank Jones, Phillip Kittrell, and Chad Watts serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Jones, Ethan Jones, Aaron Jones, and Terry Jones.
The family received friends from 3-7pm Tuesday, November 28th and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born March 22, 1931 in Robertson County, to the late Robert Lee and Bertha Lue Wilson Jones. He was a Pipe Fitter/Welder with Pipe Fitters Union Local 596, a 32nd Degree Mason, and he enjoyed square dancing and making puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son, William David Jones; grandson, Justin Hensley; granddaughter, Beverly Murphy; brothers, Robert Lee Jones Jr., and Franklin D. Jones; and sisters, Sarah L. Jones, Myrtle Kearney, and Ruth Gregory.
He is survived by sons, Donald (Georgette) Jones and Terry (Babs) Jones; daughters, Theresa (Larry) Murphy, Denise Jones, and Billie Jo Grant; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Obituary for Gerald Douglas Stewart
May 24, 1939 – November 24, 2023 – U.S. Veteran
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerald Douglas Stewart, affectionately known as Doug. He peacefully left this world at his home on November 24, 2023, at the age of 84, in his hometown of Cross Plains, Tennessee. Born on May 24, 1939, Doug was a beloved son of the late Walter “Peck” and Lena “Nook” Yates Stewart. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Stewart, infant brother James Stewart, and Brother-in-law Donnie Barry.
Doug’s memory will forever be cherished by his devoted caregiver and mother of his children, Betty Stewart. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children Bo (Korey) Stewart, Chuck (Bridgette) Stewart, and their grandchildren Elijah Stewart, Olivia (Patrick) Perry, Levi Hoover, and Kayleigh & Addie Stewart. Great-Grandsons Bryar & Coleson Perry. He was also a beloved brother to Martha Barry, Gary (Cathy) Stewart, Lisa (Evert) Holcomb, and Sister-in-law Mary Stewart. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Also, a special thank you to his caregiver Regina Poole.
Doug served his country with honor and distinction in the Army, and his dedication extended to his career as an engineer in aerospace. His contributions to the field were significant and highly regarded.
Outside of his professional life, Doug found joy in being a Scout leader for his sons, instilling values of loyalty, courage, and selflessness. For Bo’s Eagle Scout Project they cleaned up Kilgore Cemetery and Doug continued to mow and keep it nice for many years. Doug had a passion for exploration and traveled extensively, enriching his understanding of the world and its diverse cultures.
He also embraced service as a missionary in Panama, spreading kindness and his love for Christ wherever his journey took him. The Cross Plains Church of Christ held a special place in Doug’s heart, where he grew his love for The Lord Jesus Christ, his Savior.
A memorial service was held at The Cross Plains Church of Christ on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10 am – 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to be made to Alive Hospice or a Dementia organization of your choice, as a testament to Doug’s compassionate nature and desire to make a positive impact.
Gerald Douglas Stewart will be remembered as a man of integrity, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort during this time of mourning.

Obituary for Harold “Buddy” Binkley
Buddy passed away on November 23, 2023, at his home in Joelton, TN. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on March 5, 1943. Buddy was one of eight children and the only boy born to Walter & Frances Binkley. Growing up in Nashville he met and married the love of his life, Janice Frost and together they raised a son Eric and daughter Tammy, surrounded by extended family.
Professionally, he loved to drive and spent many years driving tour buses for an impressive roster of Country Music Stars and other Entertainers. In retirement he continued driving escort vehicles delivering pools, a job he truly loved doing. Buddy was an avid NASCAR fan and rarely missed a televised race, having also enjoyed many in person during his years on the road. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, kids and grandkids and took exceptional care of his many “fur babies” over the years. He also took pride in maintaining the most “sparkling” pool in all of Cheatham County and generously opened it for all to enjoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter & Frances Binkley; his sisters, Mary White, Judy Siemer, Patsy Richardson, and Shirley Cochran.
His is survived by Janice, his wife of over 60 years; son Eric (Vicki) Binkley; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Tubandt; grandchildren, Ashley Binkley & Tyler (Morgan) Binkley; great-grandsons, Landon Binkley and Brewer Binkley; brother-in-law, Ricky Leach (Debbie); sisters, Barbara Thompson, Janie Edwards, and Jodie Stewart.

Obituary for Jean Mayo
Margaret Jean Mayo, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on November 20, 2023.
She was born June 2, 1943 in Ashland City, Tennessee to Baxter Brown and Mary Agnes Morris. Jean grew up in Ashland City and was the youngest girl of ten children. She met the love of her life at Cheatham County High School, Ron Mayo. The high school sweethearts were married in 1964 and moved to Nashville where they lived for 36 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her six brothers, Lowell, Roy, Alvin, Glenn, Jerry, Raymond and one sister, Juanita Winfrey.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ron Mayo. Children – Michele (Charles) Beard, Morris (Susan) Mayo and Melissa (Anthony) Casamo. Grandchildren – Hannah (Johnny) Drennan, Emily Mayo, Allison Beard, Ethan Beard, Hudson and Maddox Casamo. Great-grandchild, Palmer Drennan. Sisters, Melba Blue and Joyce Balthrop. Sisters-in-law, Gera Turrentine and Evelyn Mayo and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was a member of Madison Church of Christ where she and Ron were active for many years leading the preschool department. She enjoyed attending the Women’s Bible Classes on Mondays. She was a fabulous cook. Famous for her chocolate meringue pie that won a blue ribbon at the fair. Jean was crowned Fairest of the Fair in 1960. Jean and Ron loved to travel all over the US. She was a huge Tennessee Vols fan and attended most of the home games and some bowl games until her health would not allow her. She retired from SunTrust Bank in 2005. She adored her children, grandchildren and recently her great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Charles Beard, Ethan Beard, Anthony Casamo, Hudson Casamo, Maddox Casamo, Barry Mayo, Mike MacDonald and Randy Mayo. We would like to thank her physicians who took care of her – Dr. Julia Gomez, Dr. Jeffery Webber and Dr. Kevin Cox. Jean loved the color purple. If you would like to honor her, please wear something purple.
Friends were received 2pm-7pm Saturday, November 25 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Pleasant View, TN. The service will be held, Sunday, November 26 at 2pm with a visitation one hour before the service.Interment will follow at EverRest of Cheatham in Pleasant View
