Troy Dale Rigsby

January 18, 1965 — December 22, 2023 Springfield

Troy Dale Rigsby, 58, of Springfield, TN passed from this life on Friday, December 22, 2023, at his home. Troy was born on January 18, 1965, in Springfield to the late Curtis Ray and Katie Ethel Rigsby. Troy was a self-employed home repairman and was of Baptist faith. He loved fishing, hunting, and giving those loved dearly nicknames. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his dogs: Pepper, Sheila, and Jeffrey. He was an avid Titan’s fan and hated anytime they lost.

Troy is survived by his brother, Tony Rigsby; sisters, Tina (Randy) Ellis and Teresa Baxter; life partner, Helen Rouse; sons, Brian and Eric Rigsby; daughter, Cara Fierro; grandkids: Peyton Brooks, Joshawa Brooks, Taylor Brooks, and Bailey Rigsby; and a host of family and friends.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Cedar Hill Baptist Church with Mark Henderson officiating.

Mildred Fitts Obituary

Mildred Jeanette Hunt Fitts, age 86, of Cross Plains, passed from this life on Sunday December 31, 2023, at her home.

Her wishes were to be cremated, and a private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date and her cremains will be buried in the Cross Plains Cemetery.

Mrs. Fitts was born April 5, 1937, in Clarksville, to the late Marvin and Dolly Darnell Hunt. She was a homemaker, and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in White House, where she was church pianist for many years. Mrs. Fitts loved gardening, traveling, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Everett Wayne Fitts, by her brother: Cecil Hunt, and by her grandson: Jonathan Clemmons.

Diane Frey Obituary

Diane B. Frey, 70, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday December 25, 2023, at her home.

There will be a time of visitation with the family on Saturday January 13, 2024, from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home. A private family memorial service will be conducted at the Palestine Methodist Church with Reverend Diane Coppock officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the Palestine Cemetery.

Diane was born August 12, 1953, in Birmingham, AL. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, was a retired District Manager with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and was a member of Palestine Methodist Church. Diane took a great deal of satisfaction and fulfillment from her prior work for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, doing her best to ensure each child had a positive role model in his or her life. She also had a deep love for her rescue dog, Sophie. It was a rare occasion to find Diane or Sophie in one place without the other next to their side.

Diane was preceded in death by her father: Willard Brett, and by her brother: Stephen Wayne Brett. She is survived by her son: Jarod Richert of Nashville, by her daughter: Lauren (Christine) Richert of Chicago, IL, by her mother: Peggy Murray Brett of Decatur, AL, by her sister: Karen Brett (Mike) Wynn of Decatur, AL, by her niece: Chelsey Wynn (Justin) Bellamy of Decatur, AL, and by her nephew: Cody Wynn of Decatur, AL.

Obituary for Cody Wray Capps

Cody Wray Capps, 37, of Hendersonville, Tennessee since 2011 and previously of Indianapolis, IN passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 28th, 2023. He was born September 16th, 1986 in Indianapolis to his parents Andy and Cindi (Patterson) Capps. He married the love of his life, Daphne Lynn (Able) Capps on January 1st, 2010.

Cody is survived by his wife of 13 years; four sons: Ezekiel Capps, Forrest Capps, Gideon Capps, and Hawkins Capps; both of his parents; two brothers: Shawn Capps (Elaine) of Westfield and Drew Capps (Holly) of Avon; maternal grandfather, Edsel Patterson of Mooresville; and paternal grandmother, Lois Capps of Indianapolis.

Cody is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen Patterson and paternal grandfather, Joe Capps.

Cody was a 2005 graduate of Decatur Central High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education in 2009 from the University of St. Francis in Indiana. He earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Bethel University in 2013 and added a Behavior Analyst Graduate Certificate from the Florida Institute of Technology.

Cody began teaching Special Education for Robertson County Schools in 2010 and later served as an Assistant Principal and Behavior Coordinator while also driving a bus for school transportation. During his time there, he was instrumental in the success of many students in Robertson County.

Cody was a dedicated husband, father, a long time member, servant leader and Deacon at Long Hollow Church in Tennessee. When Cody wasn’t dedicating his time to his family and the Lord, he enjoyed hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, weightlifting, football and even took pride on working on his home, and coaching his sons in wresting, football, and soccer. Cody was known by many to be a great leader, role model, very inspirational and a tremendous motivator.

floral squareFamily and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 4th and from 10 to 11 am on Friday, January 5th at Jones Crossing Banquet Center, 4161 East Allison Road, Mooresville, Indiana 46158, next to Jones Family Mortuary. A celebration of life service will be held following visitation at 11 am on Friday, January 5th at the banquet center. Cody will be laid to rest in West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, IN. Services are entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville.

An additional celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Hendersonville, TN.

Obituary for Nancy (Bagwell) Nicholson

Nancy Bagwell Nicholson, 85, of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday December 29, 2023, at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday January 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Noah Nicholson, Matthew Curtis, James Bagwell, Tim Bagwell, Keith Bagwell, Justin Bagwell, Adam Nicholson, Max Baker, and Nick Flohr serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday January 5th from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday January 6th from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Nancy was born August 8, 1938, in Cookeville, to the late Harold Ray and Clara May Reed Bagwell. She was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School Class of 1956. She then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1960, and later received her master’s degree from Tennessee State University. Following college graduation, she moved to Springfield to work as a UT Home Extension agent and worked with the county 4-H clubs. After taking some time to stay home with her children, she went back to work as a dedicated elementary school teacher from 1975 until her retirement in 2001, having taught at Bransford, Cheatham Park, and Westside Elementary schools. Nancy enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Both she and her husband served in voluntary roles as music leaders at Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where they were devoted members and Nancy was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Short Story Club, the Music Study Club, and the former Robertson County Home Demonstration Club. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and sending cards for just about every holiday on the calendar. She enjoyed traveling on family vacations, and both she and Joe also went on many trips as chaperones with the Springfield High School band, even after their children graduated. She loved leading the road trip songs. Nancy was a wonderful cook, and she enjoyed sewing and always had a great love for music.

Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Joseph Holt, Jr and Karen Nicholson of Springfield, by her daughter and son-in-law: Clara Nicholson Bailey and Dr. Lamar Bailey of Collierville, by her grandchildren: Noah Nicholson, Mollie Nicholson, Matthew (Maya) Curtis, and David Curtis, by her great grandchildren: Brinkleigh and Brody Curtis, by her brother and sisters-in-law: Sam and Nancy Bagwell of Murfreesboro, and Libby Nicholson of Nashville.

Obituary for Ross Phelps

Ross Allen Phelps, age 39 of Cedar Hill, passed from this life on Monday, December 25, 2023 at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 12:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with his friends speaking. The family received friends on Friday from 4 until 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Ross was born April 22, 1984 in Nashville. He enjoyed the outdoors and being on the water, especially canoeing. He loved spending time with his son playing video games and playing football and with his parents sharing time together at dinner. He worked as a brick mason with Guffee Masonry.

Angela Lynn Absher, age 39 of Nashville passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 in Nashville. She was born October 22, 1984 in Rantoul, IL. She worked as an Ambassador for the Music City Center. She enjoyed spending time with her children and sharing music with them. She is preceded in death by her son, Raymond Absher. She is survived by two daughters, Lilia Absher and Adalynn Absher; parents, Bryan and Dyanna Greaves, all of Pleasant View, TN; sister, Heather Molchadski, Carrollton, TX; 2 Aunts, 1 Uncle, 2 nieces and several cousins.

Bobby Brent Payne, age 91, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Thursday, January 4th at Springfield Baptist Church with Bro. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Tray Davis, Samuel Davis, Ethan Davis, Terry Davis, Jim Campbell, and Craig Brown serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Oliver, Jerry Farmer, Don Hix, Mike Fowler, Alan Fowler, John Palmer, and Eli Palmer.

The family will receive friends from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Thursday at the church.

Mr. Payne was born September 1, 1932, in Springfield, to the late Byram and Ruby Simmons Payne. He was the retired Co-Owner of Payne Chevrolet and a U.S. Army veteran, reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. Mr. Payne was a member and usher at Springfield Baptist Church and a founding member of the Springfield Civitan Club where he never missed a meeting.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his wife, Jean H. Payne; infant daughter, Charlotte Bess Payne; brother, Don Payne; and a sister, Dorothy P. Harris.

Mrs. Krantz was born on August 27, 1951 in Pleasant View, Tennessee to the late Charles Elva & Mable Newland Binkley. She worked at A.O Smith for 15 years, but the most important thing she did was taking care of her children and grandchildren and even a caregiver to others. She loved her African violet flowers and working in the garden. She especially loved her fur babies, Dottie, Zeke, and Bitty Kitty. She loved to cook and all the simple things in life.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Leon Krantz; son, Jeremy Krantz; brother, Raybon Binkley; and niece, Penny “Phillips” Sesler.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristy Flair; “daughter”, Kayleigh (CJ) Ziegemeier; brother, James Alton (Glenda) Binkley; sister, Mallon Phillips; grandchildren, Isaac, Emma, and Gracie Flair; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her boyfriend, Jonathan Hayes; son, Kaydeum Jack Baggett; daughter, Kenver Jaylene Baggett; father, Jackie (Darla Carter) Baggett Jr.; mother, Christy (Brian Keith) Clinard; brother, Beau Francis Baggett; sister, Madison Baggett and her fiancé Matt Chowning; grandparents, Jean Lawrence, David and Jackie Poole, and Mike and Bridges Albright; a nephew, Waylon Chowning; and several aunts and uncles.

Dalphner J. Harms, age 89 of White House went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at White House Health Care & Rehab. She was born October 5, 1934 in Cypress Inn, TN to Jesse and Emma Holt Wright. She worked as a supervisor for the Department of Corrections before her retirement. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, crafting, traveling and volunteering at Dayspring Academy. She was a member of almost 50 years of The Church of the Firstborn in White House.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, David Griffin; grandson, Christopher Gates; 3 brothers, Howard, Clinton and James; 4 sisters, Ellen, Linnie, Dora and Vivian.. She is survived by her daughters, Marion (Glenn) Thornton, Rogersville, AL, Connie (Larry) Hardin, Greenbrier, TN, Gail (Michael) Williams, Goodlettsville, TN and Janet (Dan) Mink, White House, TN; sister. Jesse Dunlop, Michigan; 3 grandchildren, Tonya, Nikki and Caleb; 2 great-grandchildren, Katie and Elizabeth; 5 great-great-grandchildren, River, Pia, Malachi, Judah and Vivienne.

Obituary for Donald Landers

Donald Lee Landers, age 94, of Greenbrier, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 12pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Brother Mike Peasall officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4-8pm and again on Friday from 10am until the hour of service at 12pm.

Mr. Landers waws born June 17, 1929 in Corona, CA. He was a Minister, Evangelist and Missionary, spending 30 years in Hawaii and 8 years in Israel. Mr. Landers was a compassionate giver and was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Landers is preceded in death by his wife, Verbena Fay Gilbreath Landers; daughter, Donna Darlene Dyer; sister, Virginia Littlejohn; and brother, Richard Landers.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 10:00AM on Friday, December 29th with Bro. John Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Mallory’s Cemetery with Marty Hogan, Cody Hogan, Ronnie Fielder, Chris Hampton, Troy Hogan, and Hunter Bailey serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 28th from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Friday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 10:00AM.

Tracie was born on June 20, 1968 in Nashville, Tennessee to Ronnie & Belva Kimbro Fielder. She was a cosmetologist and earlier in her career worked as a medical transcriptionist and for the State of Tennessee with the Secretary of Treasurer. She was a long- time member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and was very active by scheduling events, trunk or treat and VBS. She loved her family very much.

Emersyn Kate Orr went home to be with Jesus after only 32 minutes of life on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Saint Thomas Midtown. She was born to Kayleigh Michelle Brown and Meacham Hill Orr, Jr. “Mitch”. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Michael Brown; paternal grandparents, Meacham Hill Orr & Eva E. Orr.

She is survived by her parents; Mitch Orr and Kayleigh Brown, both of Springfield, TN; sister, Peyton Kemper, White House, TN; maternal grandmother, Sherrie Brown, Cedar Hill, TN; several aunts; numerous cousins and family.

William Vernon Lemmons, age 86 of White House, TN passed away, Saturday, December 23, 2023 at White House Health Care & Rehab. He was born April 10, 1937 in McKenzie, TN to Klester Vernon & Willie Myrtle Patterson Lemmons. He worked as an auto parts manager for several car dealerships before his retirement. He enjoyed walking on the greenway, taking photos of nature and spending time outdoors. He tried his crafting skills with painting, glasswork as well as woodworking. He was a member of White House First United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Mary Deck, Louise Kapps and Dortha Goodell. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn, Lemmons, White House, TN; son, Michael (Leah) Lemmons, Springfield, TN; 2 grandchildren, Taylor Lemmons and Aiden Lemmons.

Elsie Yvonne Vaughn, age 88 of White House, TN, formerly of Taneytown, MD passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Vitality Living in Hendersonville. She was born June 6, 1935 in Taneytown, MD to Charles O. & Anna Bishop Foreman. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown. She also worked for many years as a school bus aide for special needs children. She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

floral squareShe is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlin Eugene Vaughn; daughter, Laurie Jean Vaughn; sister, Oma Louise Myers. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Sid) Naylor, White House, TN and Stacy Jo (Greg) Critzer, Abingdon, MD; 4 grandchildren, Niko, Braeden, Casey and Luke; 3 great-grandchildren, Carter, Miles and Roxy; and her cat, Bee.

There are no services or visitation planned. Mrs. Vaughn was cremated and her ashes will be placed in Maryland with her husband.

Melvin Eugene Earls Jr., age 66, of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at his home.

Graveside services were conducted at 3pm Wednesday, December 27th in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Bro. David Evans officiating.

Mr. Earls was born February 3, 1957 in Nashville, to the late Melvin Eugene and Alice Ruth Miller Earls Sr. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and he loved English Bulldogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, the people who raised him, Hugh and Ollie Mae Sawyers.

Tony McGuire, age 75 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Saturday, January 6, 2024 between the hours of 1:00pm to 4:00pm with military honors at 3:00pm.

Mr. McGuire was born on February 21, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky to the late Manley & Sylvia McGuire. He was a U.S Army veteran serving in the Vietnam war. He was retired after 31 years as an over the road truck driver. Tony had many talents tinkering and refurbishing tractors. He dearly loved his family and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Mark McGuire; and step-son, Duane Bryant.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Melody McGuire; son, Roderick Dorn; daughter, Deborah (Aaron) Moore; brothers, Bob (Wilma) McGuire, Denny (Carol) McGuire, Truman (Sharon) McGuire, Bruce (Charlene) McGuire, Lonnie (Jean) McGuire, Boyd (Geraldine) McGuire, Mike (Melinda) McGuire, and James Daniel; sister, Dianna (Lonnie) Moore; grandchildren, Abigail Moore, Ian floral square(Ashley) McGuire, Kelsey McGuire, Landon McGuire; and great-grandson, Samuel McGuire.

Ashton Marcell McGowan, age 27, of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Thursday, December 21, 2023, at his home after a long, hard fought battle with substance abuse.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 10:00AM on Thursday, December 28th, with Gary Voorhies officiating. Burial followed in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens with family & friends serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 27th, from 11:00AM until 7:00PM and again on Thursday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 10:00AM.

Ashton was born on May 13, 1996, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Bo & Mayme McGowan. He worked in the manufacturing business and was a huge fan of the Memphis Grizzlies. Ashton also loved playing basketball & video games with his children.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Marcell Palmore & Dale Hunter.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Ivy Marian McGowan & Anakin Lee McGowan; mother of his children & girlfriend, Morgan Sweeton; brother, Brady McGowan; sister, Emma McGowan; grandparents, Bob & Peggy McGowan and Marian Palmore Hunter; aunt, Pam McGowan; uncle & aunt, Johnny & Sue Palmore; and cousins, Bob (Sarah) Palmore and Ben (Ashley) Palmore.

She enjoyed flower gardening, watching and feeding the hummingbirds and was a cake decorator for more than 40 years. She was a member of Generation Church in Portland, TN.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Leo Hoffman, Jr., Cross Plains, TN; son, Robbie Hoffman, Cottontown, TN; daughter, Amie (Mishon) Pore, Franklin, KY; brothers, Alan Kuehne, Burlington, WI and Terry (Heidi) Kuehne, Watertown, WI; 4 grandchildren, Katlyn, Renee, Abagale and Braden; 3 great-grandchildren, Levi, Zane and Ellie Mae.
