Obituary for Michael Resor

Michael Simpson Resor “Mike”, age 70, of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Skyline Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, July 27th, at his residence.

Mr. Resor was born on October 20, 1953, in Galion, Ohio, to the late Gloyd & Lucille Simpson Resor. He was a truck driver and retired from Electrolux after 10 years of service. Mr. Resor was a Christian who enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.

Obituary for Rhonda Woodard 

Rhonda Faye Woodard, 61, of Dayton, OH, passed from this life on Friday July 5, 2024, at the home of her mother in Oneida, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday July 11th at 12 noon in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Tyler Knight, Ian Hunter, Jacob Mayes, Matthew Robertson, Johnny B. Mayes, and Braiden Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Mayes and Lee Robertson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Rhonda was born July 31, 1962, in Springfield. She was a jack of all trades and could do anything that she wanted to. Her primary professional was roofing and she was of the Baptist faith. Rhonda was a very independent woman that loved watching the news, fishing, her cats, and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. She was a great mother, grand and great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She is survived by her daughters: Amanda Ferrell of Springfield, Crystal Williams of Cross Plains, Jennifer Mayes of Chattanooga, and Stephanie (Lee) Robertson of Greenbrier, by her son: Cory Ferrell of Adolphus, KY, by her mother: Helen Henderson Bunch of Oneida, by her sister: Dawn Woodard of Oneida, by her companion in life: James Smith of Dayton, OH, by her seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and by her two great grandchildren that are soon to be born.

Obituary for Monty Stewart 

Monty F. Stewart, age 74 of Springfield, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 12:30 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Jones and Pastor Randy Franklin officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery with Scott Swann, Ty Austin, Tommy Hallman, Blake Hollingsworth, D.J. Wilkins, Cody Wilkins, Brandon Thomas, Lee Stewart, Dylan Hunter, and Blake Stewart serving as pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4 until 8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service.

Monty was born June 27, 1950 in Dickson to the late James Blake and Wilma Glenn Fussell Stewart. He was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church and the Robertson County Fair Board Association. He graduated from Austin Peay State University where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity. He was a salesman for many years at Unarco and before that with Nasco. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed working on the farm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Terry and Scotty Stewart.

Jerry Arlene Vanderpool, a beloved retired supervisor for Metro Water and dedicated part-time worker at Sweet and Sassy Bakery and Goodlettsville Drug Store, passed away on July 4, 2024 She was known for her incredible cooking skills that turned every meal into a grand banquet for her family.

Born on December 20, 1938, Jerry Arlene Vanderpool was a woman of many talents and passions. She found joy in crocheting, sewing, coloring, and cooking, infusing love and care into everything she created. Her proudest accomplishments were not professional milestones but the relationships she nurtured with her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “Granny”.

Described as caring with a spitfire attitude, Jerry Arlene Vanderpool was a loving mother and grandmother who touched the lives of many. Her vibrant personality will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jerry Arlene Vanderpool is survived by Jesse (Sandra) James; grandchildren Patti Renfro, Jesse D. (Kati) James, and Ashley Hunt; and great-grandchildren Kaden Renfro, David Hunt, and Jonathan Carnell. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Vanderpool, daughter Vickie Renfro, and siblings Evelyn, Ulan, Ralph, and Lavon.

Sue Ann Potts, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Born July 14, 1934, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Thomas Sprouse and Birdie Alma Garrett Sprouse.

Sue will always be remembered for her caring nature and wonderful cooking that was passed down from her mother and grandmother.

Beyond her culinary talents, Sue found joy in caring for her family. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering dedication made her the cornerstone of her family’s life. She had a knack for creating beautiful porcelain dolls and sewing clothing for her children, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured for generations. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Sue was a woman of strong Christian faith. Her love and devotion for Jesus Christ leave them no doubt as to where she has gone on to.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Bobby Potts; son Bobby Lee (Lisa) Potts, Jr.; daughters Sharon Lynn (Don) Fanning and Karen (Scott) Proctor; sister Carolyn Johnson; brother Tommy Sprouse; sister Anita Horton; grandchildren Chad (Sally) Potts, Katie (Tanner) Glenn, John Luke Proctor, Willow Elaine Proctor, Kaitlyn (Alex) Greenway; great-grandchildren Holden and Emma Glenn.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister Joyce Meadows.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Kaye Felts; and grandson, Scotty Woods.

Vera “Diane” Watts, age 74, of Greenbrier, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 12pm Saturday, July 6th in the Austin & Bell Funeral Home chapel in Greenbrier with Pastor Kenny Peters and Deacon Steve Sorrells officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbrier Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 12pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Watts was born November 5, 1949, in Macon, GA, to the late James Thomas and Vera Walker Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Greenbrier First Baptist Church.

She worked in the auto industry as an office manager but then retired from Krantz furniture. She loved her flowers and gardening. Her greatest joy in life were her family, grandchildren and her dachshund dogs. She was a member of Clarksville Highway Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Pam Thomason and Judy McCord; and a nephew, Mark McCord, Jr.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 6th, with Pastor Johnny Hayes officiating. Burial followed in Neptune-Smith Cemetery with Dell Kilgore, Jimmy Knight, Randy Fuqua, Lonnie DeMumbrum, Ben Franklin, and Jason Franklin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Herbert Anderson and Kelly Kilgore.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 5th from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Saturday from 9:00AM until the hour of service at 10:00AM.

Mrs. Groves was born on April 27, 1931 in Montgomery County, Tennessee to the late Tommie & Tennie Shaw Perry. She and her husband William Preston Groves owned and operated The Hungry Pig on Highway 12 in Cheatham County. She was always caring and giving and you never left her home empty handed. She was the best cook in Tennessee, known for her chicken and dumplings, cornbread dressing, and pecan pies. She never met a stranger and will be missed by many friends who called her Aunt Ruby Nell. She was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, William Preston Groves, her second husband, Raymond Ray; brothers, Robert Thomas Perry, Roy E. Perry, James M. Perry, Herbert Perry; sisters, Johnnie Mae Harris, Emma Lou Hampton & Dorothy Marie Crickett Smock; nieces, Barbara Licciardi and Glenda Cripps; and nephews, Gene Harris and Little John Hampton.

Mrs. Walker was born on July 15, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Edward & Geraldine Ferguson Glymp. She worked for CGS insurance company for over 30 years. She was a hard worker, cared for other people in need and a very giving person. She was loved by many, and in turn loved her family and grandchildren very much and just enjoyed life to the fullest.

Betty Joyce Garrett, age 81 of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 30, 2024 at her home. She was born October 7, 1942 in Union County, Mississippi to Orman Holland & Audrey Beatrice McCain Russell. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She loved listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither Homecoming Friends, and had enjoyed attending the all-night gospel singings at the War Memorial Building when she was younger. She loved watching the game show network and was an avid fan of Steve Harvey.

She is preceded in death by parents; husband, Cecil Ray Garrett; son, Mike Williams; step-son, Tim Garrett; son-in-law, Ricky Patton; 4 brothers, Danny, Cat, Kenny “Red” and Winston “Slim” Russell; sister, Bernice Golden. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Patton, Hendersonville, TN; step-daughter, Regina (Barry) Harshaw, White House, TN; 5 grandchildren, Jason Patton, Missy (Timmy) Williams, Hannah Castle, Olivia Garrett and Brennan Harshaw; 2 great-grandchildren, Austin Williams and Addison Williams.

Jesse Dwight Walker, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed on June 28, 2024, at his home in White House, Tennessee. Born March 6, 1945, in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William and Pauline Walker.

Jesse led a fulfilling life that revolved around his dedication to family and his commitment to service. After retiring from Sears following an impressive 30 years of service, Jesse continued to enrich the lives of those around him with his gentle and kind heart.

Not only was Jesse known for his strong work ethic during his time at Sears, but he also proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His sense of duty and patriotism were evident in all aspects of his life.

Among his many passions, Jesse found solace and joy in music. His love for playing the guitar resonated with all who knew him. In addition to music, Jesse enjoyed spending his leisure time golfing, showcasing a well-rounded personality that appreciated both creativity and the outdoors.

Described as quiet and laid back, Jesse’s presence brought a sense of calm to those fortunate enough to be in his company. His warm smile and genuine nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jesse leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever remain in the hearts of his surviving family members: his wife of 61 years, Janice Walker; daughter Tracy (Van) Parchman; and grandchildren Rachel (Matthew) Kelty, Christopher Hulse, Kyle Walker, and Bryson Entrikin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bradley Walker; siblings Lilburn “Bubba” Walker, Bobby Walker, Billy Walker, and Anita Duncan.

Obituary for Odie Killen 

Odie Banks Killen, 80, of Clarksville, passed away on Friday June 28, 2024, at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday July 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mr. Killen was born May 27, 1944, in Union, MS. He was a retired Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army. Mr. Killen served during Vietnam and was the recipient of many decorations and medals, including a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his father: Odie Killen, by his mother: Onie Delma Sharp Killen, by his wife: Frances Killen, who died in 2012, and by his brothers: Zane, Dwight, and Carl Killen.

Obituary for Billie Jo Wooten Obituary

Billie Jo McEwing Wooten, 69, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday June 24, 2024, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday June 27th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Michael Millirones, Michael Johnson, Scott McEwing, Bryan Thaxton, William “BJ” Drake, and “CJ” Christopher Walden, Jr., serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Billie Jo was born July 31, 1954, in Springfield, to the late Billy and Evelyn McCord McEwing. She was a retired cafeteria worker from Westside Elementary School and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Billie Jo enjoyed traveling, especially to Gatlinburg, dancing, playing the one armed bandit, and listening to Elvis and Rod Stewart music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Larry Wooten, and by her sisters: Louise Britt and Carolyn Blackburn.

Ms. Ashley Barron, age 32, passed away on June 27, 2024. She was born on November 7, 1991 in Nashville, TN. Ashley is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jim and Debbie Corum.

Ashley has been a registered nurse for 11 years, and have been at Hendersonville Medical Center for many years.

Ashley is survived by her son, Cadin Barron; his father, Rebel (Nikki) Barron; parents, Jim Corley and Mary (Jeff) Carter; brother, JC Corely; paternal grandparents, Connie and Jim Corley Jr. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Obituary for Jo Helen “Jody” Speer

Jo Helen “Jody” Speer, age 88, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024 at NHC Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 11am Tuesday, July 2nd at the Main Street Church of Christ with Bro. Barry Thronberry officiating. Burial  followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jonathan Speer, Justin Speer, Matthew Speer, Jose Pina II, Jose Pina III, and Dud Connally serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Colton Connally, Ethan Pina, Isaac Pina, Peyton Faulk, and Jaden Whitehurst.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 11am Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Speer was born September 23, 1935 in Albany, TX to the late Russell Teurman Chambers and Olga Mae Cunningham Chambers. Mrs. Speer and her husband Bob had 7 foster children throughout their years living in Abilene, TX, and taught Asian students to improve their conversational English by using the Bible while living in Buffalo, NY. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Springfield.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Speer was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Speer; brothers, Thomas Daniel Chambers, and Carol Lawton Chambers; sister, Nadine Chambers Ferguson; and a son-in-law, Peter Dunbar Salter.

floral squareShe is survived by her sons, David Lynn Speer and partner Fay Hallmark, and Daniel Glenn (Linda) Speer; daughter, Cynthia Diane Salter; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Ina Madine Lawson.

Mrs. Rigsby was born March 14, 1941 to the late James Allen Krisle and Harriet Elizabeth Draughon Krisle. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rigsby was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn Rigsby; a special nephew, Christopher Michael Roberts; and brothers, Jimmy Ray Krisle, and John Allen Krisle.

Virgil “Lynn” Lassiter, age 73, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Stone Ridge Health Care in Goodlettsville.

Lynn’s wishes were to be cremated and there will be a private family service at a later date.

Mr. Lassiter was born September 9, 1950, in Davidson County, to the late Virgil Lassiter and Annie Wilson Lassiter Hobbs. He loved riding motorcycles, woodworking, canoeing and being outdoors.

In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lassiter.
