Obituary for James B. Crenshaw

James B. Crenshaw, age 71 of Springfield, TN died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Dale Swearingen and Carolyn Fitch officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of service. Following the service his remains will be cremated.

Mr. Crenshaw was born June 20, 1947 in Sikeston, MO to the late Bridwell Logan and Mary Maxine Collins Crenshaw. He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1965 and Baylor University in Waco, TX in 1969. In 1972 he received a doctorate of juris prudence degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia, MO. After graduation he had a private law practice in Sikeston before moving to Jefferson City, MO in 1974 to work for the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Public Service Commission. He later moved to Clarksville, TN and worked for the District Attorney and later had his own practice before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed traveling, watching TV and keeping up with the news. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Logan Crenshaw who died in 1971, and a brother-in-law, James E. Fitch who died in 2014.

floral squareHe is survived by a special friend, Elizabeth Ferguson of Springfield, TN; brother, Joseph Moore Crenshaw of Cuba, MO and his children, Jackie, Meredith, and Danny; sister, Carolyn Fitch of Franklin, TN and her children, Richard (Meredith) Fitch of Birmingham, AL and their children, Wesley and Kristen, Kim (Walter) Costner of Brentwood, TN and their children, Logan, Thomas, and Kyle, Sam (Joy) Fitch of Birmingham, AL and their children, Lauren, Anna Katherine, and Michael, and Russ (Jenna Beth) Fitch of Franklin, TN and their children, Andrew, Jack, and Ryan; and Robert Logan Crenshaw’s children, Chris and Christy.

The family request , if so desired for memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association. Al donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home.

Obituary for Tommy Parks

Tommy Parks, age 71 of Springfield, died Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at his home. His remains are to be cremated and no services are planned at this time per his wishes.

Mr. Parks was born January 25, 1948 in Simpson County, KY to the late Jodie Clarence and Mary Anna Grubbs Parks. He was of the Baptist faith and had his own stump grinding business. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of VFW 2120. In his spare time he loved spending it with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he loved to fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Parks.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Parks of Springfield; sons, Jody Parks and wife Sam of White House and James Nicolas Keen of Panama City, FL; daughters, Angie floral squareRussom and husband Jeff, Amanda Parks, and Andrea Parks, all of White House; step-daughters, Kendra Buford, Victoria Buford, and Kayla Jackson, all of Bowling Green, KY; brothers, Billy Parks and wife Doris of Springfield, Bobby Parks and wife Joyce of Cross Plains, William Parks and wife Mary of Springfield, and Jimmy Parks and wife Carlene of Springfield; sisters, Betty Jones and husband J.W., Shirley Stephenson and husband Wayne, and Mildred Abbott, all of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Obituary for James Thomas Perry

James Thomas Perry, 81, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday February 5, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday February 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor James Rawls officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Perry was born March 3, 1937 in Springfield to the late Clarence W. and Myrtle Woodard Perry. He worked in farming and was a member of the Good News Ministries in Springfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Raymond Eugene Perry, William Ray Perry, Bertha Dickerson, and Ellen Wyatt. Mr. Perry is survived by his sisters: Addie Gertrude Hollis of Springfield, and Lucille Gordon of Flatonia, TX, and by several nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Mary Lounette Johnson Allen

Mary Lounette Johnson Allen, 86, of Nashville, passed away on Saturday February 2, 2019 at The Residence at Alive Hospice.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday February 6th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with her son: The Reverend J. Roger Allen and Reverend Terry Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Allen was born March 24, 1932 in Robertson County to the late Tommy Benton and Ann Caroline “Carrie” Cook Johnson. She worked as a bookkeeper for Direct Oil for many years, and then worked as a home health nurse for over twenty-five years. Mrs. Allen attended Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a teacher of the Bible, and she had a great love for country music and enjoyed writing and singing country music songs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: floral squareJames Thomas Allen, her son: Steven Dell Allen, and her siblings: Pauline Johnson Bowen, Roy Benton, Carl Gossett, and Paul William Johnson.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her son: The Reverend J. Roger Allen of Nashville, her daughters: Rhonda Denise Neal and Diane Elise Dawson both of Nashville, her sisters: Joyce Evans of Harvest, AL, and Virginia Tremble Ritter of Adairville, KY, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Obituary for Ruth Holden Howse

Ruth Holden Howse, 94, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday January 31, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted Monday February 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Howse was born November 1, 1924 in Tullahoma to the late Ned and Clara Belle Holden. She was a retired receptionist from Amstrong/Gates and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Howse loved collecting teacups and making Christmas ornaments. She owned and operated Grandmother’s Fireworks for twenty years. It was first located next to her home on Hwy 41 S. in Springfield, then moved to Greenbrier for the last seven years that she was open. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Weck Hodge “W.H. – Blue” floral squareHowse who died in 2012. She was the youngest of thirteen children, and all twelve of her siblings also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Howse is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Ned Howse of Springfield, Ted and Vicki Howse of Springfield, by her grandchildren: Zayn Howse, Brian Howse, Rhonda Duffer and her husband Troy, and by her great grandchildren: Austin Howse, Hannah and Hailey Duffer.

Obituary for Joanne Hart Hemenway

Joanne Hart Hemenway, 84, of Smyrna, passed away on Monday January 28, 2019 at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with G.R. Davis officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday February 9th from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hemenway was born August 14, 1934 in Springfield to the late Walter Franklin and Daisy Odeneal Hart. She was a retired Administrative Assistant with the Department of Mental Health for the State of Texas. Mrs. Hemenway so enjoyed traveling to and spending time at the beach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Albert Cook Hemenway, and by her daughter: Melissa Hemenway.

floral squareMrs. Hemenway is survived by her daughter: Melanie Hart of Smyrna, by her son: David Hemenway of Kerville, TX, by her sister and brother-in-law: Betty Hart Davis and G.R. Davis of Kingston Springs, and by her grandchildren: Jonathan Hemenway and Jennifer Kaspar.

Obituary for Gordon Browning Matthews

Gordon Browning MatthewsGordon Browning Matthews, age 81, of White House, Tennessee passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Gordon was born June 25, 1937 in Livingston, Tennessee to the late William Bryant Matthews and Hattie Ann Amelia Savage Matthews. Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He served 24 years in the U.S. Navy Seabees which included two tours of duty in Vietnam. His battalion, NMCB-53, was issued the Presidential Unit Citation for their extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty during the Tet Offensive. He was also deployed to Naples, Italy; Sigonella, Sicily and Bermuda.

Gordon was named after Tennessee Governor Gordon Browning. His name was proposed by an influential person in his childhood, his grandfather, the late Tennessee State Senator William Jasper Matthews.

While in the Navy, Gordon mastered the Italian language in which he remained fluent in the duration of his life. He enjoyed coaching youth sports, visiting family, vacationing at the lake and spending time with his friends. Gordon was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gina Matthews; two sons, James (Ashlee) Matthews and Sam Matthews; grandson, Aiden; sister Jenny (Tom) Key of Livingston, Tennessee; sister-in-law Beryl Reid Matthews of Cookeville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers: Lloyd, Russell, Benton, Deloy, Bill and Ted Matthews; sister, Sue Loftis.

floral squareRalph was born on September 20, 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee to Ralph William and Patsy Gale Morris Meadows, Sr. He was the owner of Transmission Exchange in Springfield. He loved to play his guitar, loved to deer hunt, and his family was his life. He was a Christian and was a local missionary who preached Jesus to all he met.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Renee Meadows; son, Malcom (Meghan) Meadows; daughter, Lacey Dawn (Jay) Walker; sister, Marilyn Meadows;and grandchildren, James Ethan and Ava Raine Walker.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to a missionary fund of one’s choice.

Ralph Cash Chappell JrAge 61 of Goodlettsville passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Portland, TN. He was born December 12, 1957 in Nashville, TN to Ralph Cash Chappell, Sr. and Sandra Jane Brown Chappell.

He worked as a customer service rep for Anchor Bolt and Screw. He was a 1976 graduate of Stratford High School, where he played football, was class president and won numerous track and football awards. He was an avid UT Volunteers fan. He loved the outdoors, especially spending time on the lake boating. Following high school he attended MTSU and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Donald William Donovan IIIAge 54 of Cross Plains passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at his home. He was born February 13, 1964 in Hampton, VA to Donald William Donovan, Jr and Mary Smith Donovan.

He worked as a mechanic for Sunbelt Rentals until becoming disabled. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during Operation Desert Storm. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and listening to country music.

He is preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife Michelle Blaydes Donovan; son, Brandon Donovan, both of Cross Plains, TN; daughters, Krystal Donovan, Cross Plains, TN and Samantha Donovan, Davie, FL; father, Donald William Donovan, Jr., and brother, Sean Donovan, both of Sarasota, FL; 2 grandchildren, Rebecca and Cynthia.
