Obituary for Loy Wayne Lemmons

Loy Wayne Lemmons, 79, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday May 21, 2023, at his home. His remains will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Lemmons was born September 19, 1943, in Springfield. He was as a painter and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Lemmons enjoyed bird watching, watching TV, especially John Wayne, and tinkering with antique radios. He was preceded in death by his father: Hubert Lemmons, by his mother: Willie Mae Whiting Thaxton, and by his siblings: Juanita Wix, Lawrence Lemmons, and Jerry Odell Walker.

Obituary for Craig Edward Hunner

Craig Edward Hunner, age 52, of Cedar Hill, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Mr. Hunner’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will have a Memorial Gathering of Friends from 2-3pm Saturday, June 10, 2023 in the Greenbrier Cemetery. There will be a memorial, burial of ashes, graveside service conducted at 3pm in the cemetery.

Mr. Hunner was born September 7, 1970, in Santa Monica, CA, to the late George and Kathleen Hunner. Craig was a 6th degree black belt in Wado Ryu Karate, and was very successful, owning his own business, Lyke Nu Pressure Washing. He was a God fearing man, floral squarevery caring, loving, big hearted, and would do anything for anyone. Craig also loved and adored his dogs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Hunner.

Craig is survived by his sisters, Colleen Naughton, Kathleen Hunner, and Kelly Lavery; and a brother, George Hunner; and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary for William Lawrence Mayfield Sr.

It is with great sadness that I share with you that William Lawrence Mayfield Sr., better know as “Larry”, passed away on May 14, 2023, at 12:21am.

Larry was a dedicated family man who loved his work, coffee, and Gospel music. Having been raised in the church as a preachers son, Larry gravitated to Gospel music at a very early age. In fact, it was his singing that introduced him to his beautiful wife Margery.

Known throughout the Gospel community as a commanding bass singer, Larry cherished his time as a member of the Ambassadors, as well as many other quartets in the middle Tennessee area.

floral squareDuring and after his active singer years, Larry found fulfillment in attending “singings”, collecting records, and sharing his finds with his peers, or the family members of those who passed on. He found tremendous joy in keeping the history of Gospel Music alive and sharing it with those who shared his passion.

Larry is survived by his wife Margery, children Laray and Larry, grandchildren Sabyn, Austin, Haley, and Tristen, and great grandchildren Trent, Nora, and Jasper. He was preceded in passing by his daughter Karen.

Age 89 of White House passed away Friday, May 26, 2023 at NHC in Springfield. He was born March 13, 1934 in Greenbrier, TN to Curnie Leonard & Mamie Belle Callis Briggs, Sr. He owned and operated Briggs Upholstery Shop for many years Jimmy proudly served his country in Korea in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mount Pleasant UMC Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Anne Atkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy Briggs, White House, TN; sons, Anthony Mark (Karen) Briggs, White House, TN and Tim (Andrea) Briggs, Cottontown, TN; daughter, Melanie (Bryan) Jones, White House, TN; brother, Wayne (Linda) Briggs, Goodlettsville, TN; sister-in-law, Joan Briggs, Gallatin, TN; 9 grandchildren, Kyle (Andrea) Ruffin, Tyler (John) Ruffin, Barry (Shelby) Hutchison, Sarah Briggs, Hannah Jones, Matthew Jones, Taylor Briggs, Nathan Jones and Lily Briggs.

Obituary for Carl Hubert Moore

Age 83 of Greenbrier passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born October 19, 1939 in Nashville, TN to Hugh Franklin & Mildred Olene Cole Moore. Mr. Moore was the first Fire Chief for the City of Hendersonville. He was retired from Acosta Food Service with 30 years of service. He was a member of Al Menah Shrine Temple and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a Past Master of Hendersonville Masonic Lodge #359. After moving, he had become active in the Crystal Fountain Masonic Lodge #282 in Orlinda, TN. He had served as a Dad sponsor for Demolay and had coached all kinds of little league sports over the years. He attended The Way in Millersville, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Gene, Skip, Dude, Blake and Billy. He is survived by his loving wife of 56-1/2 years, Barbara Moore; son, Wayne (Nelia) Jones, both of Greenbrier, TN; 2 grandchildren, Joshua Scott (Sara) Jones, Gallatin, TN & Kimberly Dianne Jones, Grand Junction, CO; 3 great-grandchildren, Weston Jones, Harrison Jones & Dalton Jones.

Obituary for Cynthia Anne Burgess

Cynthia Anne Hewell Burgess, age 90, of Cedar Hill, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 26, 2023 at 12 Noon in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Frank Kirby officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Crawford, Eric Hurt, Lynn Batey, Chuck Ritcher, Rex Wilson and Troy Head serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Richards, Trent Randolph, Lee Batey and Corey Head.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday from 10am until the hour of service at 12 Noon.

Mrs. Burgess was born August 22, 1932 in Bristol, TN to the late William and Bertha Shinn Hewell. She worked as a clerk at Ace Hardware and was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Burgess is preceded in death by her husband, Edd Burgess, her brother, James Hewell, her sisters, Ruth Lacey and Dorothy Hewell, and her nephew, Wayne Hewell.

Obituary for Peggy Marie Stacker Brewer

Peggy Marie Stacker Brewer passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 19, 2023. She was 100 years old.

Peggy was born on February 10, 1923, at the home built by her grandfather in Adairville, KY. Peggy was the first born of Samuel Stacker and Aliene Kroker Stacker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, of 72 years, her daughter Linda Brewer, 72, her brother Sam Stacker and grandson Jacob Brewer.

As a young girl, Peggy was exceptionally talented. She loved to sketch landscapes and would also design and sew her own clothes. She enjoyed entertaining and was an elegant hostess, cooking for Ralph almost every single night of their marriage.

Peggy and Ralph married November 17, 1946. They found stability in a solid church family, where Peggy taught Sunday School and sang in the choir and made many lifelong friends.

Peggy loved clothes and was always dressed in her finest attire. In addition to adorning herself, she continually conceived of ways to make her home more beautiful, doing most of the painting and wallpapering herself. In her 50s Peggy took up painting. Her artwork has been featured in several festivals and to this day can be found in her Kentucky home, as well as in the homes of her children and grandchildren.

In February 2023, Peggy celebrated her 100th birthday in true Peggy style, with a feather boa, a silk pantsuit and a tiara at Mill Run Gardens and Care Center surrounded by her family and friends. Cared for by Bella Hospice and their extraordinary staff, Peggy was supported and celebrated daily.

Peggy is survived by her sister Anne Byrum, 96, children Judy Brewer Wiseman, Ralph Wayne Brewer, and William Randolph Brewer and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her spirit and wit greatly.

Church St. in Adairville, KY, 42202. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to Adairville United Methodist Church in Peggy’s honor.

Tracy Anita Rush, age 62, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville.

Her wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.

Tracy was born on November 16, 1960 in Newport, Tennessee to Jean Jarnigan, and the late Thomas Bryant. She was employed at Esquire Wire in Clarksville, and was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Dandridge, Tennessee.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by step-father, Doug Jarnigan; sister, Paula Cruze; grandparents, Russell & Artie Messer, and Corene Hall.

Darrell Webster Conatser, age 57, of Cross Plains, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

A Memorial Service was conducted at 1pm Saturday, May 27th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.

The family received friends from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Conatser was born January 13, 1966, in Jamestown, TN to Douglas McArthur “Mack” Conatser and Nancy Diana Conatser. He worked in landscaping and fencing most of his life.

He was preceded in death by a son, Austin Tice; father, Douglas McArthur “Mack” Conatser; step-father, Burlie Robinson; and a brother, Timothy Choate.

Georgia Elizabeth Randolph Phillips, 98, of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday May 19, 2023, at the Signature of Portland.

Graveside services was conducted Monday May 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Hopewell Cemetery with Brother David Harper officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Randy Phillips, Gary Phillips, Joseph Phillips, and James Randolph. The family received friends at the graveside service on Monday.

Phillips, by her sons: Larry and Robert Phillips, and by several brothers and sisters.

Barbara Ann Osburn Ashabraner, 88, of Springfield, passed from this life on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at Spring Meadows in Clarksville.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday May 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with David Woodard and Jim Woodard officiating. Pallbearers were Micah Woodard, Robert Reason, Malachi Click, Bryson Click, Nick Stone, Drew Lynch, David Rainwater, and Mike Click. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Lynch, Phoenix Woodard, Mike Harbert, and Ronnie Harbert. The family received friends at the graveside service on Tuesday.

Ms. Barbara was born November 17, 1934, in Cedar Hill, to the late Ewing and Aubrey Harlen Osburn. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Barbara enjoyed flower arranging, crafts, cooking, and babysitting children. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Harold Ashabraner, by her daughter: Lillian Reason, by her brother: Ewing Osburn, and by her floral squaresisters: Kathryn Fetterolf and Mossie Decker.

Ms. Barbara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and David Woodard of Springfield, by her sister: Melba Rainwater of Adams, by her grandchildren: Stephanie (Andrew) Lynch, Robert Reason, Sarah (Mike) Click, and Micah (Lauren) Woodard, and by her 10 great grandchildren.
