Obituary for Jerry Wayne Graves

Jerry Wayne Graves, age 79, of Springfield passed away after at brief illness on September 19, 2023 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Jerry was born on November 4, 1943 to the late Herbert Wilson and Susie Summers Graves in Cedar Hill, TN. He worked at Delight Products before retiring with 32 years of service and then enjoyed farming and caring for his dogs and cows up until his death.

He was an avid fan of NASCAR #9 Bill Elliott and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jerry was well known in the Barren Plains community, along with his son Jeff, for their famous pork barbecue and sausage. He always took great pride in his work rebuilding motors, gardening and canning produce and sharing with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Summers Graves. He is survived by his son Jeff (Cynthia) and grandsons Evan, Frank and James. A sister, Betty (Chester) Fuqua and a brother, Wilson (Rosemary) Graves. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all, including his 8 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation for the CCU doctors and nursing staff at Northcrest, especially his nurse Taylor and Dr. Raymond Cracion.

Obituary for Ann Marie Long Henderson

Ann Marie Long Henderson, age 70, of Greenbrier, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 1pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday from 11am until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mrs. Henderson was born November 14, 1952 in Robertson County to the late Paul and Valley Marie Leftrick Long. She was a cafeteria worker for the Robertson County School System.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Henderson is preceded in death by her brothers, Paul Junior Long and Ralph Anthony Long, and her sisters, Betty Paulette Young and Edith Diane Long.

William Lawrence “Bill” Powers, age 70 of Nashville, passed from this life on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at his home.

His remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Bill was born May 17, 1953 in Toledo, OH to the late William Joseph and Delvia VanOrt Powers. He worked for GrafTech as a customer Tech Serviceman. He was a Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns fan, enjoyed mowing and working in his yard, and loved decorating for the holidays.

Surviving him are his wife, Karen Joan Harvey Powers of Nashville; daughters, Lauren Kathleen (Brandon) Shacklett of Castle Rock, CO, Stacey Leigh (Joe) Hill of Gallatin, TN, and Chelsea Rose (Gary) Quezada of Alburquerque, NM; grandson, Oracio Lawrence floral squareQuezada and 2 grandsons on the way that are due in January; sisters, Cheryl (Bill) Behrend of Wooster, OH and Coleen, (Joe) Krajniak of Wilmington, NC; and brother, Terence Powers of Cleveland, OH.

Obituary for Billy Don Moates

Billy Don Moates, age 77 of Lebanon, Tennessee, formerly of Robertson County, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 at his home.

Graveside services will be conducted at EverRest of Cheatham in Pleasant View at 1:00PM on Monday, October 2nd, with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mr. Moates was born on February 24, 1946 in Pulaski, Tennessee to the late Fred Harris and Louise Kimbrough Moates. He was retired after 30 years as an accountant for the State of Tennessee. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed gardening, canoeing, music and riding his motorcycle. Billy was of the Church of Christ faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Jerry DeWayne Moates.

Dean was born on December 19, 1959, in Franklin, Tennessee to the late Dorris, Sr. and Joann Green Potts. He was a carpenter in the construction business and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Dorris Potts, Jr.; and sister, Claressia Hampton.

Dewey Raymond Newberry, age 84, of Springfield, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Mr. Newberry was born November 13, 1938 to the late Herman and Gladys Smith Newberry. He was veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a tractor mechanic until his retirement from Nashville Ford Tractor.

She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Springfield High School graduating Class of 1962, and worked for many years as an office employee of several large companies with a focus on her accounting skills. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and embroidering. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Dulley, Sue Murphy, and Ann Woodard.

Obituary for Michael Glenn Armour

September 28, 1957 — September 17, 2023

Michael Glenn Armour, a beloved member of the community, passed away on September 17, 2023, in his hometown of Springfield, Tennessee. Born on September 28, 1957, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Michael led a fulfilling life filled with hard work and dedication to his family, church, and career.

Throughout his professional life, Michael served as the Shop Manager of Fletchline and worked in Excavating Company for many years. Apart from his successful career, Michael was a devoted Lights Chapel Baptist Church member. His strong faith was a guiding force in his life. As a church community member, Michael actively participated in various activities and events. He found solace and strength through his connection with fellow members.

Described as someone who voiced his opinion on everything, Michael’s personality was marked by an unwavering conviction in his thoughts and beliefs. He had a fondness for Westerns and Country Music that brought him joy throughout the years. However, it was his love for his family that truly defined him. Michael’s unparalleled devotion to those closest to him was evident in everything he did.

He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher William Armour who brought immense joy into his life along with his brother Herbie Armour; sisters Jackie Armour, Connie Clinard Witt, and Teresa Keyman.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 5 years, Vickie Armour. Michael’s legacy extends to the generations that followed him. His grandchildren, Triston Armour and Dakota Armour, step-children Nicki (Josh) Johnson and Sammy (Jennifer) Roberson, step-grandchildren Derrek Rippie, Trent Rippie, Peyton Roberson, Paisley Mae Roberson, Stella Johnson, and Ellie Johnson, siblings, Ella Ruth Graves; Billy Jo Armour and Bobby Armour.

Lastly, Michael was blessed with the joy of being a great-grandfather to Rosalie Earles, Layton Rippie, and Jackson Ray. His pride for them knew no bounds, and their presence brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

A visitation ceremony was organized to pay tribute to Michael Glenn Armour’s remarkable life. It took place on September 21, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 4005 Memorial Blvd in Springfield, Tennessee. The visitation commenced at 2:00 PM and concluded at 5:00 PM. This was a time for family, friends, and community members to come together in remembrance and support.

Brother Mayo was born February 10, 1935 in Springfield to the late Raymond E. and Inez Fields Mayo. He worked as a traveling salesman for McQuiddy Printing and was a minister for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Brother Mayo also enjoyed crappie fishing at Reelfoot Lake.

Age 75 of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. He was born June 7, 1948 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Cargyl G. & Virginia Davis Kiser. He worked as a mechanic until his retirement and was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hendersonville. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He also enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol Lynn Kiser, Hendersonville, TN; sons, Matthew (Stephanie) Kiser, Gallatin, TN and Jonathan (Brittney) Kiser, Hendersonville, TN; brother, Danny (Camille) Kiser, Kingsport, TN; 5 grandchildren, Lane, Michael, Mitchell, Addisyn and Lynnlee.

Obituary for Robert Michael “Mickey” Robb

Robert Michael “Mickey” Robb, age 71, of Ridgetop, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 at StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna.

In accordance with Mr. Robb’s wishes, his remains were cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Robb was born June 6, 1952 in Springfield to the late Robert E. Robb and Mrs. Joan Birdwell Robb of Ridgetop. He was a member of the Highland Chapel Union Church and was on the Board of Sessions. He was a life-time member of the Boy Scouts, and was the recipient of the God and Country Award. He loved his country, was a true patriot, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a simple man that loved watching wildlife and nature. Most of all Mr. Robb loved and was so proud of his three grandchildren, Hailey, Tanner and Zoey.

In addition to his father, Mr. Robb is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey McCall Robb.

Obituary for Henry Vozka

Henry Vozka, age 86 of White House passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at Hendersonville Medical Center. He was born March 31, 1937 in Detroit Michigan to Henry & Myrtle Bernard Vozka. He attended Howe Military School in Howe, IN and joined the Marines at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in Vietnam in the US Marines, receiving many awards and commendations, including a purple heart. After retirement, he taught ROTC at Vanderbilt University. With Henry the saying “Once a Marine Always a Marine” was never more true. He later retired as a Springfield Police Officer. Serving his country in the Marines and serving the citizens of Springfield as a police officer were two of the most important things in his life. He enjoyed watching hockey, fishing and hunting. He also loved attending military balls and visiting his old military base in Bridgeport, CA. Anything about the Marines, and Henry was there front and center. He was a member of Millersville Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtle Vozka. He is survived by his loving wife, Celia Vozka, White House, TN; daughter, Evelyn Heffington, Germantown, TN; brother, David Vozka, Anchorage, AK.

Obituary for Julia Ette Wheeley Richards

Julia Ette Wheeley Richards, 76, of Springfield passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, at TriStar Northcrest Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Brother Johnny Trail officiating. Interment followed at Sulphur Spring Cemetery in Franklin, KY with Grant Domen, Vic Domen, Michael Brooksher, Dickie Richards, Allen Roach, and James Jackson serving as pallbearers. Bo Rippy, Jesse Richards, Jerry Richards, and Tom Richards served as Honorary Pallbearers. The family received friends on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Julia was born on October 1, 1946, to the late Heron D and Ella Mitchell Wooten Wheeley. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed working as a homemaker. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Barry Glenn Wheeley.

Mrs. Richards is survived by her husband of 56 years: Donald Richards of Springfield, by her daughters: Lisa Ann Richards of Springfield, and Donna Kay Richards Domen of Franklin, by her grandchildren: Grant Domen of Washington D.C. and Abigail Domen of Franklin, by her sister-in-law: Melissa Wheeley Howell of Adairville, KY, by one she loved as a son: Allen Roach of Gallatin, by floral squareher special niece: Lindsey Wheeley (Matt) Higgins of Adairville, KY, and by a host of nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Donnie Ray Jones

Donnie Ray Jones, 76, of White House, passed away on Wednesday September 13, 2023, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday September 16th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Carroll officiating. Interment followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Ed Jones, Barry Jones, Wes Jones, Tyler Chowning, Kenny Ray Chowning, and Tommy Hale serving as pallbearers. Braden Jones, Knox Jones, and Cole Chowning served as Honorary Pallbearers. The family received friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Donnie was born April 22, 1947, in Springfield, to the late Thomas Edward and Juanita Pinson Jones. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and was of the Baptist faith. Donnie was a co-owner of Springfield Tobacco Warehouse and spent a lifetime doing his favorite hobby, farming. He loved fishing and going to the Smokey Mountains.

Mike was born August 18, 1954, in Nashville. He was a graduate of Greenbrier High School Class of 1974. Mike retired from the City of Greenbrier, was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, was a member of the Greenbrier Masonic Lodge 725, was a 32nd Degree Mason, was a member of the Al Menah Temple, was a member of the York Rite, and he enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his father: Felix E. Morris.

He was born August 16, 1961 in Springfield, TN to Kenneth A. & Ruth Annelle Henley Brooks. He worked as a field supervisor for Tennessee Kentucky Sprinkler. Roger loved playing golf, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, NASCAR, Tennessee Football, fishing at the lake house, sitting on the patio listening to the fish pond and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of McKendrie Methodist Church.

Obituary for Dorothy Robey Chesley

Dorothy Robey Chesley of Dunn Loring, VA and later a beloved member of the White House, TN community, passed away peacefully on Sept 14, 2023. She was 97 years old.

Dorothy was born in Dunn Loring, VA where she excelled in music and later married her high school sweetheart, Emory W Chesley of Fairfax Station, VA, on March 3, 1945, during the midst of World War II. Their love story spanned several decades and states in which they lived, raising four children and travelling extensively together.

Dorothy used her exceptional musical talent as a pianist and organist in service to her Lord in every church she and Emory attended, leaving a lasting impact on those congregations. From accompanying a gospel quartet at Franconia Methodist Church, and accompanying the choirs in which Emory sang, to both singing in the Hendersonville Community Chorus once they moved to TN, they shared their passion for music as they did all things, together. Dorothy and Emory were not only faithful church members all their adult lives but also founding members of Temple Baptist Church in White House, TN, where she was fondly referred to as “Ms. Dot”. Their adventurous travels included driving the Alaskan Highway, visiting most of the national parks as well as spending a month in Maine in the midst of winter.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Emory W. Chesley of Fairfax Station, VA. She is survived by her loving family, including Curt and Yonnie Chesley of Franklin, TN; Gary and Deb Chesley of Cottontown, TN; Jay and Lisa Chesley of Mt. Juliet, TN; and Laurie and Randall Carter of Huntsville, AL. Dorothy’s legacy extends to her nine cherished grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Frances Denny, age 96 of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 19th, with Bro. Joe Bogle officiating. Burial followed in Bearwallow Community Cemetery with Russ Denny, Denny Moran, Austin Denny, Scotty Chambliss, Mark Chambliss, and Eddie Ray Gray serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Denny was born on January 22, 1927 in Ashland City, Tennessee to the late Andrew and Dora Perry Mayo. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She loved her flowers and was a long- time member of the Bearwallow Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Denny; and sisters, Margaret Morris and Betty Chambliss.

Louise Adams Tilley, age 97, of Adams, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at NHC Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted at 12pm Thursday, September 14th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Crouch and Ken Coker officiating. Burial followed in the Bellwood Cemetery with Rick Smith, Clint Smith, Caleb Smith, Steve Adams, Larry Adams, Don Adams, Alan Adams, Glenn Adams and Jim Adams serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 12 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Tilley was born May 26, 1926 in Triune, TN to the late H.R. and Allie Adams. She graduated from Franklin High School and Lipscomb University. She was the very first person to receive the very first four-year degree ever offered by Lipscomb when they transitioned from a two year college to a four year university. Louise taught in schools in Robertson County, TN and in Todd County, KY. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter and did many crafts. Louise lived her entire life on the family farm and was an active member of the Robertson County Farm Bureau and the Adams FCE. She was a member of the Adams Church of Christ where she taught Bible classes for 60 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edward “Irvin” Tilley; brothers, Robert, James, Ira and Herschel Adams; and a sister, Eva Mae Coker.

Obituary for Cheryl Nash Covington

Cheryl Nash Covington, age 76, of Springfield, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at her home.

In accordance with her wishes Ms. Covington’s remains were cremated and a memorial service was held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 3pm at the Main Street Church of Christ with Brother Bob Filson officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 12 Noon until the hour of service at 3pm.

Ms. Covington was born May 22, 1947 in Nashville, TN to the late Clarence Allen and Vivian Marshall Nash, II. She was a member of the Owens Chapel Methodist Church, attended Laityn Meetings, worked at Unarco for over 34 years, and was on the Board of Directors for the Credit Union of Robertson County.
