Kids and Drugs: Hiding in Plain Sight – A Local Mission to Educate Parents
ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The National Guard Anti-Drug Taskforce recently brought their “Stashed Away” trailer to Springfield, offering a unique and educational experience for parents and community members. This trailer, a mockup of a teen’s bedroom and bathroom, showcased the clever and sometimes surprising ways drugs and paraphernalia can be hidden in plain sight. It provided valuable insights into red flags adults should watch for if a child may be experimenting with or living in addiction.
Smokey Barn News had the opportunity to tour the trailer, and it was an eye-opening experience. From everyday items turned into hidden compartments to store-bought devices designed to conceal substances, the tour revealed just how creative these hiding spots can be.
Tiffany Thompson, with the Robertson County Prevention Coalition, explained that while this visit featured the National Guard’s trailer, the Coalition is in the process of outfitting their own trailer to continue educating parents in the future. Until then, parents or guardians concerned about drug issues in their home can reach out to her at [email protected] for assistance or resources.
The “Stashed Away” trailer served as a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness and proactive communication in supporting youth and promoting healthy choices.
