HENDERSONVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Firefighters from several agencies spent the day battling a large home fire on New Hope Rd in Hendersonville.

The home is located just south of White House in the 2600 block of New Hope Rd. MAP Crews have been battling the blaze for the last hour. The first call went out just before 2 pm.

Smokey Barn News has confirmed that the fire does involve loss of life. According to Fire Chief Marty Bowers with the Shackle Island Fire Department,  singer/songwriter Ray  Pennington died in the fire.

According to Chief Bowers, the family golf cart in the garage of the home may have been the trigger that started the fire.  Pennington and his wife smelled smoke and went to check. The smoke became overwhelming and Mr. Pennington was not able to escape.

New Hope Rd was closed while firefighters used the road to stage for water transfer suttles and portable dump tanks. See photos below.

We have also learned that two firefighters have been transported to the hospital with heat exhaustion. One from the Shackle Island Fire Department and the other from White House Community. If more information becomes available we will certainly bring it to you.
