One Dead, Another Injured in Fatal Adams, TN Crash On Hugh Gill

UPDATE: The Tennessee Highway Patrol is now releasing more information about the crash. According to their preliminary report, 38-year-old John Paul Roark of Tennessee, driving a 2013 GMC Pickup eastbound on Hugh Gill Road, failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and strike a tree. Roark sustained minor injuries. The passenger, 25-year-old Makayla L. Johnson of Kentucky did not survive the crash.
Roark is facing charges of DUI and vehicular homicide. He was transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield under a $250,000 for vehicular homicide and $3,500 for driving under the influence.
Roark bonded out of the Robertson County Jail on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

ADAMS TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – One person has died and another was injured in a fatal crash on Hugh Gill Road Sunday evening. The accident occurred in the curve on Hugh Gill Rd, not far from Davidson Rd, the first call coming into 911 at 7:24 p.m. LOCATION OF CRASH
The crash involved a single pickup truck that collided with a tree line, causing heavy damage to the vehicle. According to Adam’s Fire Chief Donovan Tucker, one person was transported to a nearby hospital, while the passenger, despite the heroic efforts of first responders, did not survive.
The THP is leading the investigation into the crash. Hugh Gill Road was closed for several hours as the THP conducted a thorough investigation. We have reached out to the THP, and as soon as they are prepared to release their findings, including the identity of the person who lost their life, we will bring it to you.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Robertson County EMS, Robertson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the Adams Fire Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and a LifeFlight helicopter responded to the scene.
According to her online obituary, Makayla Leigh Johnson, 26, of Olmstead, KY, was a graduate of Olmstead Elementary and Middle School, and later Logan County High School.
Known for her adventurous spirit, Makayla loved spending time with her family, enjoying the company of her dogs, attending concerts, kayaking the Red River, and exploring in her jeep. Her full obituary and details on her services can be found HERE
