ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Two local Robertson County area men lost their lives in two separate fatal crashes on Tuesday.

The first crash occurred on South Lamont Rd. near Haywood Fisher Rd just West of Orlinda. MAP The accident occurred just before 9am. The accident involved two vehicles in a head-on type crash. The driver of one of the vehicles, now identified as Sean Williams, 29, of Springfield, died in the crash.  The driver of the second vehicle, Brian Gulyas, 49, also of Springfield, escaped the crash without serious injury.

The second crash occurred just after 4:30 pm on Hwy 31W near Bowling Branch Rd. MAP A 2003 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a 2014 chevy pickup truck. Officials at the scene tell Smokey Barn News that the impact was hard enough to rotate the pickup.

The motorcyclist, now identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Cortez of White House Tennessee was transported to Skyline Medical Center via ground in very critical condition. Due to weather concerns, a medical helicopter was not available. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Cortez later died.

The driver of the pickup, a 66-year-old Portland man, and his passenger, were not injured, according to the THP.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol provided a brief preliminary description of the crash.

According to the THP, both vehicles were traveling South on Highway 31w when the pickup slowed down to make a left-hand turn onto Bowling Branch Rd. The motorcyclist proceeded to pass at an “extremely high rate of speed” and struck pickup in the rear.
