POLICE: Woman Took Money From Dying Man Following Wreck

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  Yesterday Greenbrier police arrested Brittany French McCoy, of Greenbrier on charges of theft, burglary, tampering with evidence, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

According to Greenbrier Police,  McCoy was arrested following an investigation into the theft of items, including a wallet, from the person and vehicle of Ronald Clinard after he was killed in a traffic accident in front of French’s residence on July 1st.

Mr. Clinard’s wallet was stolen from his body and then his credit card was used at a nearby convenience store to purchase beer, cigarettes and other items.

According to Greenbrier Police Chief K.D. Smith, French gave Clinard’s identification to police when they arrived at the scene of the accident. Chief Smith said that French said she found the ID lying by a tree.

Chief Smith told Smoke Barn News that it was another driver that stopped at the scene and he was the first to call 911. He tried to care for Clinard until the paramedics could arrive.

Chief Smith alleges that McCoy left the scene and bought candy,  a 12 back of beer, a soft drink and cigarettes with Clinard’s card and later came back to the scene and gave the drink to the victim’s daughter.

A gun was also missing from the truck and police are trying to figure out what became of it, Chief Smith said.

Chief Smith stated that “We see a lot of disgusting things as police officers, but this absolutely is one of the most disgusting crimes I have ever seen. It is just a completely heartless act.”

Greenbrier Police became aware of the situation from the Clinard’s family, Smith said. The family couldn’t find the wallet at the scene and Clinard’s bank reported the activity on the card.

Greenbrier Police told Smokey Barn News that Clinard was traveling North on 41 when for reasons unknown he veered left traveling across oncoming traffic and over a curb. Clinard’s red Chevrolet pickup truck then struck an embankment sending the truck airborne into a row of trees. Clinard’s pickup impacted a tree, head-on.

The impact was severe, Clinard was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Clinard family released the following statement to Smokey Barn News this afternoon.

“The accident in which our father was killed in was a tragic shock to us all. Watching his truck being pulled out of the woods was something we will never forget. The most sickening part of this all is knowing that there was a heartless person that took my father’s personal property to use for their own good. Yesterday evening I was contacted by the Greenbrier Police Dept advising me that Brittney French (McCoy) had been placed into custody. There are no words that can express the feeling of this situation. All I will say is that justice will be served. To all of the friends, family, and emergency workers that assisted and came to the funeral home , much appreciation!!”

McCoy is being held in the Robertson County Jail under a $37,000.00 secured bond. The investigation is continuing into the possible involvement of others in the theft.
