Portland/New Deal Area Head-On/Rollover Crash Injures Two Saturday
UPDATED:
NEW DEAL, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News)—A head-on collision on Halltown Road near the city of New Deal sent two individuals to the hospital Saturday afternoon, including a minor. New Deal is positioned halfway between Cottontown and Portland.
The crash was positioned near S Ray Rd between Hwy 76 and Hwy 25 on Halltown/Morris Rd, the first call coming into 911 around 12:30 PM. LOCATION OF CRASH
According to Sumner County EMS Chief John Michael Poss, the crash involved two vehicles, one of which overturned. Both a minor and an adult were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Poss stated. Emergency response teams, including Sumner County EMS, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and the Highland Volunteer Fire Department, were on the scene.
Eyewitness Charlie Brew, who arrived moments after the crash, described the scene:
“We were at the store around the corner and heard a loud crash. We got in the vehicle and went to see what happened. When we got there, the first thing we saw was one vehicle with damage to the front right side, the whole right side almost gone. Then we noticed a second vehicle 30 or 40 feet up the road in a ditch, upside down.”
Brew recounted the moments following the collision:
“The first vehicle had an elderly lady trying to make her way out, crying and completely in shock. My nephew approached the second vehicle, which was heavily damaged on one side, and helped a young man climb out. As he stood up, blood started running down from under his head. He just kept saying he was sorry. He came over to the woman and said he was sorry, and we all said a prayer together.”
Brew and others helped make the victims more comfortable while waiting for emergency services:
“We got a chair for the lady from a nearby house and called her family as she asked. Her arm appeared broken, and she had blood on her hand. We stayed until the sheriff’s deputies and EMS arrived.”
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. As soon as they are prepared to release their findings, we will bring it to you.
