Robertson County Roads Still Icy In Spots

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – With the warmer temperatures Monday the snow and ice is melting fast but residents are still urged to be careful on the roads.

As the roads clear it’s tempting to sneak up to normal speeds but as we toured the county Monday we discovered pockets of snow, ice and slush that appear just over the crest of a hill or around a corner, and suddenly you find yourself on a patch of ice.

On Lahr Rd in Springfield a semi found a patch of ice on a banked turn. The result, the truck slid off the road. Luckily the driver is OK but once you do become stuck it can still be hours before help can arrive.

After looking over the roads, Robertson County School officials decided to keep schools closed on Tuesday as well. MORE

Recommendation: Drive below the speed-limit, even if the road seems clear and keep on the lookout for patches of ice and snow. If you have young drivers in the house, you may want to consider keeping their driving to a minimum.

With the highs being well above 40 degrees the rest of the week we should be able to put all this snow behind us by Friday. (Weather)
