Springfield Shooting Ruled Accidental Police Say

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  Springfield Police are currently investigating a shooting that took place Monday evening.

Just before 8pm Monday Springfield Police were dispatched to a home on Poplar Ave. MAP The 911 caller stating that a man had been shot. When Detectives Bogle and Consiglio arrived on scene they found a 34 year old man lying on the ground in the driveway.

The man told police that he had been shot in the hip while setting outside. During the investigation, 3 unspent .38 caliber shell casings were recovered scattered in the driveway. Detectives also recovered a crack pipe lying beside the victim.

Later the victim admitted that he had accidentally shot himself while attempting to place the gun in his waist band, Police said. He was transported to Skyline medical center with Non-life threatening injuries. The gun was recovered inside the residence and placed into evidence for TBI and ATF trace.
