Teen Critical After Being Struck By Vehicle in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A teenager, that was “extremely critical” after he was struck by a vehicle on Central Ave in Springfield Friday evening, has now died, according to the THP.

The accident occurred just before 5 pm Friday evening on Central Ave near Cheatham St. MAP. Central Ave was closed for several hours while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

According to Robertson County EMS, the 18-year-old male, now identified as Jonathan Yates, 18 of Springfield, was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center in “extremely critical” condition but later died, according to the THP.

According to the THP’s preliminary report, Mr. Yates was walking on Central Ave when he entered the roadway attempting to cross the street and was struck by a passing vehicle (a 2015 GMC Sierra) traveling East. Mr. Yates later succumbed to his injuries, the report said.

The driver of the Sierra (a 17-year-old minor) was not charged.

The Springfield Fire Department, the Springfield Police Department, Robertson County EMS, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
