Four Utility Poles Destroyed in One-Day Crash Spree on Memorial Blvd in Springfield
UPDATE: A fourth crash involving a utility pole occurred on Memorial Blvd in Springfield on Saturday. That report has been added to the bottom of this article.
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Springfield first responders were kept busy Saturday night with two back-to-back crashes involving utility poles, both just minutes apart, both on the same stretch of Memorial Blvd. That makes four utility pole crashes in the same stretch of road within 24 hours, all occurring Saturday.
The first crash occurred around 11:30 PM Saturday night at the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and 5th Avenue, directly in front of A Around the Clock Bail Bonds. MAP A vehicle struck a utility pole, causing significant damage to the vehicle and the pole. The pole will need to be replaced. The driver was given a field sobriety test on the scene before being detained. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and is likely totaled.

While crews were still on the scene at Memorial and 5th, another call came in that a second crash involving a utility pole had occurred one mile up the road at Memorial Boulevard and Tom Austin Highway, the call coming into 911 just before midnight Saturday. MAP In this incident, a vehicle struck a pedestrian crosswalk signal pole, obliterating it and causing heavy front-end damage to the vehicle. The driver was also put through a field sobriety test and then detained.
These two crashes follow a third crash that occurred early Saturday, a vehicle struck a utility pole on Memorial near 16th Avenue. The crash occurred right in front of Little Caesars Pizza. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, snapping the pole at the base. When first responders arrived, the driver was nowhere to be found. We have added that report below.
All four crashes occurred in heavy rain, though authorities have not confirmed if weather played a role. Springfield Police, Springfield Fire, and Robertson County EMS responded to all four scenes. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Police Find Empty Car Following Rollover In Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – First responders found an empty car following a rollover crash in Springfield overnight. The crash took out a utility pole and clogged Memorial Boulevard for several hours while crews made repairs and cleared the scene.
The crash occurred on Memorial Blvd near 16th Avenue East, the first call coming into 911 at 2:33 AM Saturday. The vehicle had struck a utility pole and flipped in front of Little Caesars Pizza, snapping the pole off at the base, and leaving it lying next to the overturned vehicle in the roadway. When first responders arrived, no driver was found. Reports indicate the driver allegedly left on foot, but no one was transported from the scene. It’s unclear whether the driver sought medical attention on their own or left uninjured.
The crash shut down the two eastbound lanes and the middle lane of Memorial Boulevard for several hours while Springfield Electric replaced the pole in pouring rain and lightning. Once the lines were secured, the vehicle was flipped upright and towed away.

CRASH FOUR: This will be the 4th crash along Memorial Blvd, this one occurring near the DMV, with the first call coming into 911 at 10:19 AM. LOCATION OF CRAH Reported as a multi-vehicle crash, this incident also involved a utility pole. Officials tell us that no one sustained serious injuries, and no one was transported from the scene.
