Trapped Family Jumps From Window Of Burning Home

PORTLAND TENNESSEE: (SMOKEY BARN NEWS) – A Portland family barely escaped with their lives, after becoming trapped in the upstairs portion of their home.

The home is located on Demase St, the first call came into 911 at 2:35 PM. MAP

According to Portland Fire Chief, Sam Thorton, while his team was en route,  two Family members jumped from an upstairs window of the burning home. When Portland Fire arrived, they assisted two more out of the same window.

According to Chief Thorton, the fire had engulfed the staircase, trapping the family upstairs.

All four family members were transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Animals including dogs, cats, and ducks were inside the home. According to Chief Thorton, most did survive, however, some perished in the fire.

According to Chief Thorton, his team did an excellent job bringing the fire under control and containing the damage to about 20% of the home. “They did a fantastic job, I’m very proud of the guys. They’ve been training hard for the last few months and it paid off for those people today.”

According to Chief Thorton, the cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
