Vehicle Fire Backs Up Traffic in Springfield Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A vehicle fire backed up traffic in Springfield Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:15pm at the intersection of Memorial Blvd and Central Ave. MAP

A large fuel tanker had just started off-loading fuel to a station just feet away. The driver told Smokey Barn News that he had just started to off-load the fuel when he heard a loud pop behind him. He turned around to see a car on fire. He quickly closed the valves and stopped the off-loading process and offered his assistance to the occupants who were not injured in the incident.

Springfield Fire officials said the decision to stop the fueling process by the driver before firefighters arrived was wise. Traffic on Memorial Blvd and Central Ave was backed up for about 45 minutes while crews put out the fire and removed the vehicle.
