Warning: Phone Scammers Pose As City Of Springfield Employees

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Tuesday, January 16, several Springfield businesses received calls from 800-320-8652 telling them that they owe money to the City of Springfield. The number has since been disconnected.

If you receive this type of call do not send any money, city officials said. According to Springfield Police Lt. William Watkins, City Hall will never call you to collect past due amounts.

According to Watkins, this is a recurring scam that resurfaced last year. Using burner or disposable phones, pre-paid phones or using spoofing technology makes tracking these kinds of criminals problematic, Watkins said.

The important thing to remember is that the calls are fake, if you do get a call, just hang up and contact Springfield Police Department at 615/384-8422 or Crime Stoppers at 615-382-3799.
