According to Commander Daniel Okert with the Goodlettsvill Police Department, Graves (driving a white 2007 GMC pickup in the right lane) was traveling South on I-65 overtaking a Greyhound bus, also heading south in the center lane.

For reasons unknown, Graves’ vehicle encroached on the bus’s lane and struck the right front corner of the bus. Graves’ vehicle then veered across the interstate and struck a retaining wall.

After traveling about 118 feet down the retaining-wall, Graves vehicle veered back across the interstate and struck a guardrail.  After impact the pickup went over the guardrail and down an embankment where it came to rest, Okert said.

Graves was not wearing his safety-belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The bus had 35 passengers not including the driver, no one on the bus was injured. “It was just a glancing blow on the bus,” Okert said.

Lanes of I-65 were closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation.  I-65 was reopened around 8:15 p.m.
